Lol! I wasn't even looking for this... The quote I was referencing was from Federer himself in an interview, but here's confirmation...

I suspect he said one quote after winning, and the other after losing. (I'm serious, too, because I vividly remember him making that comment.)

Perhaps... but I do recall him being asked the question about his motivations, and he specifically references loving winning as opposed to hating losing to explain his mentality. I'm not going to have an argument about it. Just wanted you to know

It's also something that could change with age. 33 year old Federer probably has more perspective than when he was on top of the world.

That must be it. And we've all heard the stories of how emotionally overwrought Federer used to get when he lost. (I love Cahill's story of watching Roger and Hewitt play when they were juniors. Cahill said he's never seen so much crying.)

That was not about losing. It was about failing to meet his own standards. And Roger made the comment years ago. Roddick merely confirms his consistency

I'm so glad you're not going to have an argument about it. ;)

Well, if he was winning then he would be meeting his own standards, so yeah it kinda was about losing.

Lol! I meant, he used to get upset about not executing his shots. It wasn't about losing, he just had too many options and would get down on himself if he made the wrong selection. There's a difference :)

Well, with someone who can do the neat trick of finding exactly what they need without looking for it, I won't worry about that. ;)

Lol! Mr. Cynic! I don't think I'm known on here as one of those who desperately wants to prove a point. But I was looking at a telegraph sports article and saw the Roddick piece. I'm a sucker for a good tennis piece, and it made me chuckle when I saw Roddick's comment. Trust me... I'm not that invested in trying to change the mind of folks who are almost as stubborn as I am. It's a fools game ;)

All I can say is I hope so, Mr Bodo. Young Dimitrov, perhaps more so than any other rising star, has the potential. Plus I will be happy to see the day that both Djokovic and Nadal are dethroned and a new trend with contrasting players is ushered in (hopefully led by Dimitrov) the game. I've actually stopped watching tennis (and cancelled my subscription TV account) this year following the BOOOORING Roland Garros championship and today am satisfied with following the sport on the messageboards rather than spending hours viewing on tv and online.

I think Grigor might have to dump Rasheed. I was listening to some of the commentators and they made the good point that while Grigor is fitter now he just plays percentages. He doesn't have quite the swash buckling game he used to have :nono

Grigor needs to find the will to win, needs to find that resolve. Swashbuckling v. percentages isn't the issue. The kid needs stones.

Let's not forget influence of Maria! Heaven knows Martina Hingis was vilified and made in "The Black Widow" when top players' games went south while dating her! :p :nono  :dodgy:

Lol! I'm the first one to find a reason to criticise Maria, but that's stretching it. If anything he should benefit from watching her application

He has been with Maria for many years by now, and he was improving during that period until last year, when after Wimbledon, his result became less good.
I have been advocating for him for a new coach for months by now, he has to change something sooner rather than later.

Years? Really? What was she doing; swaddling him? He's a baby still! What a cougar! :dodgy: :hug
