Zverev won first set against RBA. That would be a good win on clay for him.

Pella and Chung had a big fight for it, but Pella got it done at the end and will play Zverev. Almost had an all NextGen final. But look for Pella as a potential troublemaker in the next clay events. His game is looking good.

Tidy win for Zverev over Bautista Agut. Chance of a title here for the youngster.

Pella to spoil the NextGen party, given that in fact Zverev is pretty ordinary on clay.

I didn't see the match today, but the implication is that he may be finding his strategy for clay, to beat a solid Spaniard on clay. Did anyone see the RBA match?

I will just believe when I see it. Anyway RBA is surely fine player, but not so clay oriented as other Spanish players.

I don't agree with this. The Spanish player that people mis-categorize is Feliciano Lopez. The rest of them, while they are often better on HC than is expected, they are trained early on clay, they know how to move their feet, and are not easily beaten by someone who is just tall and has a big serve. I'm thinking of Sharapova's quote describing herself as a cow on ice. Yet she found a way and won RG...2x. Sasha Zverev was looking like a cow on ice recently. But he may have found his footing. We'll see.

Some excellent stuff by Zverev to win in Munich. I think he's more trouble on clay than we had been led to believe a couple of weeks ago.

Fair enough. A win is a win, a title is a title, lot of decent clay scalps on the way. Can't argue with that.

By the way, my point with RBA was that he is less clay oriented than most of the Armada. Checked his stats and in fact both his 2017 and overall stats are better on HC than on clay. But I never meant he is a slouch on clay.

If you'd argued that RBA was a pure clay courter, I'd have taken you up on that, as well. ;) I don't think most of the Spaniards are so much specialists, anymore, but they do start out as kids learning first to move their feet, and then to swing a racquet, which helps a lot on clay.

Great to see Sasha win a tourney on clay. :clap

We were wondering if he was any use on the surface, well this will give him great confidence. Of all the young players, he's growing to be the one I like the most...

He said he wants to play Nadal on clay again. Disappointed w/ his showing in Monte Carlo, he said he's ready now.

That's the attitude to have, isn't it? He should be disappointed with his play in MC, and this is what I love about this fellow: so often over the past 15 years we've seen greatly talented players seem like they're just happy to be along for the ride. He doesn't like losing, and he doesn't like how he loses. I hope he plays Nadal again on clay, too...
