Rafa will easily win his group.
But then he has to go tru a couple of battle tested players that know how to beat him indoors on hard court.

This isn't Roland Garros or Rome. This is a low-bouncing, indoor hard court: Rafa's least favorite surface, and for good reason. We saw what Ferrer did in Paris. Rafa will not easily win this group.

Tented, it's the God's honest truths, this surface is kyptonite for Rafa, I am just being honest . It's no fun for me watching him this Fall

Oh, I hear you. A lot of Rafa fans watch with one eye closed this time of year.

Yeah, it sure looked like Kryptonite in 2010 lol. I guess some people only started following tennis in 2011....

It is nothing. In putting the shoe on the other foot I know Roger wasn't happy just taking sets vs. Rafa on clay even though it was his worst surface. Great players accept nothing but victory. This is common sense...so I thought.

Don't forget, Nadal and Federer are opposites mentally. They do not share the same attitudes at all. There is a lot more to tennis than victory. Nadal's main goal is to improve his game. That is what its all about, and its why Nadal is peaking on hardcourts at age 27.

No, it's just that simple minded people might believe an athlete's every word. I've heard Roger say he played better at 30 than 25, I've heard him put a positive spin on a QF exit at a major, I've heard him act like he was paralyzed following the loss to Berdych at Wimbledon.

I'd be a damned fool to think Roger believed any of the above. And here's a hint, Rafa is even worse...

Well Nadal hasn't beaten Federer indoors, so obviously he'd consider taking a set from Federer an encouraging sign. Anyone would. You wouldn't? No problem :lolz:

Can someone please point me in the direction of ONE thread that isn't being derailed by Nadal2005's silly shenanigans? I'm not joking...

It'd be nice to keep this thread for actual matches too. :snigger

Seems Stan recovered well to win the third. Wasn't a great match for the first two sets, but good start for him...

I'm only replying to Darth. Should I ignore his shenanigans next time?

Good win for Stan. Anyone know if he has a decent H2H vs. Ferrer? I am not sure how their matches have gone but I'd imagine David would be a pretty tough matchup for him.

Try to stay on-topic now. I'm not the topic. I was posting about tennis until the personal attacks began.

I think tonights match is crucial for both players. It's a must win for any of the two to stand a chance of qualifying since they'll have to face both Fed and Nole.

2nd set breaker. Who wins this set? I vote for Stan.

Funny how a good coach actually can help in the mental toughness department. Magnus Norman has benefitted Stan almost as much as Lendl has helped Murray.
I think he has a magical touch rather, perhaps he did some psychiatric studies somewhere. He just takes on an underachiever, aka Soderling (2009) and Wawrinka (2013) both lacking confidence and just takes them to a new level.
Wawrinka becomes a top 8 player at 29 (Helllllo young guns!!!) and I do think this is not where it will ends. I predicted this in May, as soon as he started working with Magnus, you could see right away a difference in results. Keep it up Stan!

Yeah but Djokovic is a choker, so doesn't matter where they play, Nadal is the likely winner if the stakes are high. And Federer is out-of-form. Del Potro has overplayed. Nadal's best surface is not indoor hardcourt, but he's still one of the best indoor players in the world. Very few player have beaten Djokovic and Murray at the World Tour Finals. The fact that Nadal also took a set from ON-FIRE Federer in the World Tour Finals final is another feather in the cap.

Sometimes, I read your posts and see some resemblance of an actual coherent and well presented counter argument against the "mainstream" thoughts.

BUT.....dude, this post alone should get you BAN. You are trolling hard and I'm tired of skipping discussions just because of your trolling and I'm not even active anymore. :cry:cry:cry

So true. Norman caught my attention when he coached Soderling, and I thought he could help Stan. He's exceeded my expectations.

Another guy I like as a coach is Franco Davin. He worked with Gaudio and did a good job. He's been fantastic with Del Potro.

I know he is. That is why I am saying he has more upside, as this year he managed a SF at the USO. His RG was his best ever also but he run into Rafa in the QF. With better odds, he could score a SF there too, at least.
I predict right here, that Stan could be a top 6 player at some point, in the near future, if Berdych, Tsonga did it, he could do it too. It might not look a whole lot of upside, but in this era, is awfully hard to progress within the elite.
