"When I'm playing in Barcelona I'm not thinking in RG, the same way when I'm playing in Roma I'm not in Madrid".
Wise thoughts of Rafa and more and more I have the confidence he is going to do a good clay season better than last year :clap

I always love that in Rafa, the ability to block out anything other than what he's doing. It serves him so well in big matches...

^ Rafa avenged last year's loss to Ferrer in MC. Now he has the chance to do the same to Almagro in Barcelona.

Thiem lost as well, to a lesser ranked player. These young dudes should have one goal in mind: Punch above your weight, not the other way around.

There was so much talk about the "young guns" in the past few seasons. I am already sensing some get stuck somewhere in the top 100 in the middle ground, like in a mud.
Those who are expecting " a lot" from them, could be really disappointed by the time all is said and done.
Thiem got schooled by his Daddy today, Estrella Burgos who is 34y old and just won his first title earlier this spring. Thiem has yet to win one.

It's not going to be the dimitrov generation that is going to win any slams. More likely to be the coric/rublev/zverev/ymer group I think.

It is not all about slams. One thing is to be a top 20 player, and another to be a player ranked 40-60 for about all their career.
And 2 years ago, by the way, some said here that Dimitrov will rule mens tennis after 2016.

I want to follow the Barcelona tournament and root for Nishikori but all the Nadal fans posting after their three minutes with their Rafa blowup dolls is making it hard to stomach.

Maybe I'll go follow the Bucharest tourney this week.

Don't go to hard on them, it's the last realistic opportunity for Rafa to hoist a clay trophy this year. :snicker

Hope kei does well again. This tournament was kind of his breakthrough last year.

A SF or Final here will be ok. I don't want him to peak too early this year. Would hate to see him do great in Barcelona and Madrid, only to flame out in the FO 1st round again.

Defending the title should be his goal. He already skipped Monte Carlo.

No reason to be concerned for RG already.
