And so Paula Badosa becomes the first person through to the second round over Larsson. I thought it was gonna be Goerges there for a moment. Had taken my eye off Badosa.

Osaka looking good against Bouzkova. A little trouble at the start. But cleaned it up. Got over the nerves. I was wondering if her nerves might play a role in this and allow Bouzkova to have a big impact. Because I remember Bouzkova beating Stephens and Halep last year in... Canada? But Bouzkova is struggling to convert break points. So good on Osaka. She'll look to finish it off here soon and get her title defense up and running.

Alexandrova letting Teichmann back in to the set. But wins it anyways.

And Goerges has finished off Kuzmova. 6-1 6-2. Only Badosa's 6-1 6-0 looks better.

Osaka wins 3 straight games and will serve for the match 5-4.

Osaka d Bouzkova 62 64
Osaka did have a little lapse of concentration in the 2nd set, solid first rd win.

No, Gorgeous is the first winner. She won in 56 minutes whereas the other one went for 57 mins.

I was watching the scores and Badosa was definitely done before Goerges. Goerges may have done it faster. But Badosa's winning result had already been removed from the live scores while Goerges hadn't even started serving for the match yet. Maybe they started a few minutes later. None of this really matters of course. It just means they both had good days and easy opponents.

13th seed Petra Martic had easy win over Christina McHale 63 60

Yeah great win for her. I thought McHale might give her a run for her money but it looks like the good version of Martic showed up, as it has been at the slams since the French last year. She made the French quarters last year and followed it up with 2 4th rounds at Wimbledon and the US Open. She lost in the second round here last year. We'll see if she can keep her 4th round streak going. These mildly good results, coupled with some good runs outside the slams have her at her very respectable 13th seed (14th in the rankings).
