That's VERY tight from Wang. Just nerves. The Serena effect. Serena went down the tee for once on the ad court down match point. But Serena misses wide again to give Wang another chance.

And she did it. Wang pull off the win of her career. There will be no number 24 for Serena at the AO this year.

Well deserved by Wang. She was the better throughout.

THIS is why I said these people over at Tennis dot com have no imagination. I can't say I saw Wang pulling off the upset. But I've watched Serena struggle with her own game too much over the last 2 years to think she's just going to dominate every slam up until a final. She's 38 years old. And it shows. She's still amazing. But she just can't do everything she used to be able to as well as she used to be able to.

Truly remarkable match from Wang. She never gave up. Early on in the third set was SO important. She didn't go away. And showed that she knew that she came close to winning it in two and that she wasn't afraid of Serena now. She didn't believe Serena was just suddenly gonna get better and she followed her game plan. Attack the forehand. And get the return in.

And of course that's probably the biggest factor for Serena. When Serena loses these days it's because the serve lets her down. It didn't use to do that. Now it does.

Year of the Rat. Serena fans may think they know who the rat is, but Serena was not top drawer today, by any stretch.

At the beginning of the third set, I thought Wang will fold like a cheap tent, like so many other girls.

But Wang is profile of courage and tenacity.

I am more impressed by her winning in 3 sets than if she had won in 2 sets.

I thought, the beasties Rena and Carol will play each other in 4th round.

But both are gone today.

They asked Wang on court: It's Chinese New Year, are you going to celebrate? A: No. Q: A little bit? A: No. :lulz1: Good for her. Eyes on the prize.

Makes it all the more sweet for Wang after Serena probably took her for granted! I can watch this one again!
I don't think so. Serena's serve and game was AWOL most of the day.

Serena was gassed! Wang got too many balls back & put pressure on her! The 1st serves really helped! Congrats to Wang! Too good!

I am not saying that Wang did not deserve her win,.looking at Serena's earlier matches, she did crush Wang at the USO I did not think this match would be trouble for Serena that's all.BTW she was coached by Aussie Peter McNamara he died at a young age.
