I should think the one that stings Roger the most is the one he lost to Novak in 2011 after he beat him in Paris to stop his streak and had beaten him down in New York. He lost having match point and a two set lead--Lord have mercy

Actually Roger and Rafa have the same record, then, as Federer last to either Hewitt or Nalbandian after being up two sets in either Davis Cup or something outside of a major.

It was Nalbandian, also in 2005, at the Tennis Masters Cup. 6-7(4), 6-7(11), 6-2, 6-1, 7-6(3)

And Novak has the advantage this time, too.

It may not be enough! These boys are hungry and good! Stefano was going toe to toe with Nadal swiping over that backhand with impunity! We've already seen how Daniil can overpower Djokovic when playing his best and extended Nadal to 5 at the USO 2 years ago! I think Dokovic has a better than even chance since he had a relatively easy and short match while playing at a very high level! None of them better waste this opportunity; esp. Nole! :angry-face:

It'll be enough. IIRC nobody outside the Big 3 has defeated two of them in the same tournament so don't bank on Tsitsipas doing it. Medvedev would be behind mentally and if Djokovic is over his injury (which I suspect he is) he will definitely be the favorite.

i don't see a realistic chance for the greek to win the SF, Daniil is better in every aspect of the game except net game.
I would like to see him win because he is clearly the easier opponent and would be cooked after a hard QF and even harder SF.

Same here, I don't see Tsitsipas winning against Daniil. Facing the greek is much better option for Novak. Daniil has a real chance to win if he reach the final, IMO 50:50 match. I expect bookies to put Novak - Daniil 60-40 in favour of Novak because of so many AO titles and experience.

Medvedev has been spared. He won't have to beat Nadal and Djokovic back to back.
Can he use this to his advantage?

Absolutely right, a rare moment is approaching when I have to root for the greek coward to win. Otherwise Daniil is my fave player.
A close match over 4-5 sets could also help Novak, despite of who wins, he has an easy SF a one day more rest.
Worst constellation would be an easy straight set win for Daniil.

I think he will take advantage of the opportunity. Sunday will definitely be tough, but the US Open final defeat plus the 2020 ATP Final victory will give him some confidence and experience to battle through the match.

The one thing Medvedev has done this year (ATP Cup and AO) is that he has played his matches quick and efficiently. Yes, he has lost some sets already, but he was able to regroup quickly when he lost those sets.

Greek dispached back to Greece as expected. This version of Medvedev would have beaten Nadal here as well, no doubt. Now time for a final showdown, hope it can be a close and entertaining match.

Daniil's going to kick that door in very soon and get a big one. If not here, then the USO.
Agree Baron, just finished watching the s/final.Danii has a 20 straight match win,12 of them Top Ten,also Novak has lost three of his last four matches against Danii. He will be playing the 'Match of his Life' on Sunday.,and trying to make it 21 straight match wins.

Novak, wake up and slay the Russian who would make all coaches obsolete by making them leave in the middle of Matches because they woke up in grumpy mood and haven't had their snack yet.

Novak will remind Medvedev who the big boys still are.
