So Federer digs in down 15-40 on Millman's serve and he gets a break point for it. Millman erases it with a great serve though. But he works hard for another and Millman's shot clipped the tape. Federer adjusted well and gets another break point. And he had to defend with every shot in his arsenal. But Millman's shot slides long and Fed's got the third set.

Just straight up stole that set out from under Millman. Millman up 40-15 and still dropped that service game. Fed just doing what he's done a thousand times. Not giving the game up down 2 game points.

He's at least got a buffer set now. We'll see if he can close it out rather than let Millman stay in it (because Millman hasn't gone anywhere. Just got out played by good ol Fed in that last game.)

Federer has served well since he donated that break in the 1st set. He has not faced a single break point since then...

Well a loose first game here from Fed. A second deuce now. Much of the credit to Millman though of course. Still swinging. Not going away. But Fed finding his way through in the end. A poor return from Millman on the second deuce point and a solid forehand from Federer on game point. Millman for once not able to get there quick enough to do anything with it.

Second very nice lob from Millman today. Federer put him in a tough situation and he responded splendidly.

The problem for Millman is that he is not hurting Federer’s serve right now so Federer can just play freely.

Federer bringing it to deuce here. Still can't put Millman away. But he is swinging more freely now. Feeling that 2 sets to 1 lead freedom. But that doesn't mean he's quit missing. Misses a forehand just slightly wide to give Millman the game point. But Millman wins the next point for the hold with a BRILLIANT pass. Fantastic.

Federer quick to serve though to put a kibosh on the celebration of that shot. QUICKLY out to 30-love. But then another great dictating play from Millman. But Federer quickly to 40-15 and then a lovely dtl backhand to take the game. Taking care of his service games well now.

If there was point I felt like that match became steady for Federer, it will be that 3-2, 30-all 2nd set service game for Federer. Federer hit a 2nd serve and Millman miss a backhand return long. Then, on the next point Millman netted a backhand while Federer was waiting...

Federer gets to 30-15 on Millman's serve. Back to 30-all. Good serve from Millman gets the out reply. Misses his first serve. But Federer shanks the forehand again. 3-all.

Millman working hard to stay with Fed. 30-all. And Millman gets the break. Good return at 30-all. And then another just awesome dictating point from Millman. Just totally bossing the point. Fed missed his first serve. So the opening was there. But my goodness he just keeps going. When he has these points, it's lightning quick. Just taking time from Federer. As fast as if not faster than grinding points from Djokovic and Nadal against Fed.

Federer is spraying that forehand. Millman is winning a lot of the forehand cross-court exchanges once they get into an extended rally.

Down love-30 Millman wins the game anyways with 4 straight points. Even though he missed his first serve down love-30 and 15-30. Fed just missing slightly on the last serve of the game.

Fifth straight point for Millman to start Fed's service game. 30-15 Fed. Another solid return from Millman. 30-all. 40-30 Fed when Millman misses wide. But back to deuce with a wild forehand from Fed. Good one two punch to get the game point. And an ace to take it.

We'll see how he deals with the Millman serve now.

yes and now millman taken Federer to 5 sets so maybe he's just a good player who lifts against federer not sailty baby excurses.

Millman takes the 4th set 6-4. We are going to a 5th set

Good news for Federer: He has not lost a fifth set match at the AO since 2013 (lost to Murray)

Bad news for Federer: He has lost his last three 5 set matches he has played in...his last 5-set win was here against Cilic in 2018.
