Just got home for the start of the Pliskova v Lucic-Baroni match.Pliskova is my Dark Horse to win this tournament,she made the USO final last year against Kerber,had a break in the 3rd set,her serve let her down.Lucic Baroni will run everything down and has a solid return game.As I type Plisokva has a break and leads 3-2.Plisokva to win.
Konta v S.Williams.Konta made the s/finals here last year,I have been impressed by her form so far to make the QFs,her game in all departments will have to be 'On' if she is to defeat Serena.I was not impressed with Serena's last match,her serve went AWOL.Knowing Serena she will lift her game for this match up.Serena to win.

Lucic-Baroni is on fire,broke back,she is a great returner of the ball,also has created some great angles,broke Pliskova to win the first set 64.Pliskova serve,especially her 2nd serve has deserted her,anything too short on the court Lucic-Baroni is just putting it away for a winner.

Pliskova breaks,Lucic-Baroni did a Novak Smash into the net,Pliskova breaks leads 4-3 2nd set.Pliskova's 2nd serve still too short,Lucic-Baroni still playing aggressively.Pliskova breaks Lucic-Baroni to love and wins the 2nd set 63.I thought this match would go the distance.Lucic-Baroni needs to play with more 'controlled aggression'......it has cost her late in the 2nd set.

Both players both lost their opening serve in the 3rd set.Pliskova playing too passive,also she needs to pick up her first serve percentage,2nd serve too short,Lucic-Baroni breaks,3 breaks of serve so far in this 3rd set,leads 3-1.

This 3rd set has become a 'Breakfest' Pliskova breaks,back on serve in the 3rd set 3 games all,whoever can hold their serve can win this match,Pliskova has one of the best serves in the WTA is has gone AWOL in this match.

One of the best sets of tennis Serena has played so far at the AO takes the 1st set in 35 mins 62 over Konta.Moving great,returning well,found her serve,as I thought she would 'step up' for this match.

Serena is such an Amazing Athlete and I think as fans we are soo lucky that she still has the drive and passion at age 35 to still play tennis.When you consider the s/finals will have 3 players in their middle thirties,it is surreal,Coco is just a 'baby'
That surprised me. I had Pliskova as a potential winner.

Well Pliskova was my Dark Horse,though her serve was found wanting all match,also her movement,she was too passive.
Lucic-Baroni deserved her win
amazing -- and let\s not be SHY -- hugely toucfhing story about MIRJANA...
a year consecutive she COMES BACK to the semis!
never mind the inconsistency through the year, her own game inconsistency, her careers
ONLY consistency has been so much tragic disappointments.
how anyone can not LOVE to see HER at least find some big joys this way!
i mean -- can any of US imagine being in that position:
to know that you ONCE had great promise to perhaps win so much more, reach higher, feel that accomplishment so many more times, grow that potential in so many more ways - actually perhaps HAVE won your own major even just once...
but instead see other girls go and march by while you
work with your sisters as a cashier in a supermarket....because youall had to run from an abusive father -- earn a living fixing dresses?
like marlon brando -- and the story of so many -- in ''THE WATERFRONT"
always having to say "i could have been a contender?"
and for years and years - maybe forever -- never losing your love for that game -- just WATCH others that you KNOW you might have beaten and be better than -- and all that -- SWALLOW it because that's what life gave you?
when it's like that -- i can never see how anyone might RESENT MIRJANA - if she plays the better game on a given day -- finally actually win her own major..
maybe even on THIS very australian open where she first made her biggest presence as a teen -- practically 2 DECADES ago..
you just have to really WISH it for her, u know? because if sports is also anything ELSE --
it IS an allegory for the lives of MOST of us on earth. it's probably one reason why human beings like to watch athletes battle it out -- we ''project" some of our own dreams or desires , hopes onto the players ...and we want to ''feel"
what it's like -- if WE don't have the talent, or concentration, or situations or - plain luck -- to be in the RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME DOING THE BEST WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE FOR THE RIGHT OR MOST DESIRED REASONS.
