Very impressive recovery from Roger in the 5th set there. Given age, what figured to be rust, lost momentum, etc. that was quite incredible for him to play like that in the last set. Great match overall too, just a little cold to start and then a really bad turnaround in the 4th when it looked like he was about to close it out and Kei did well to make him pay in those moments. Overall Kei made it close even with Roger serving great and blasting a ton of winners.

35 yr old guy has a 6 month layoff and now looks primed to win the whole thing. You can't write this stuff! He's really balling now. If he has to go thru Stan I'm not sure how much left he'll have though

I couldn't believe he lost the fourth set but it doesn't matter too much anyway. Hard to believe this is his first real tournament for six months (sorry Hopman Cup)... I thought he played some really great tennis tonight.

I think Roger takes Mischa Zverev and it won't be close. Then we have a big semi v Stan or Tsonga...

Yes! Couldn´t write during the match...

Raise the hand if you are a Federer fan and wasn´t sure he was going to lose after he lost the fourth.

And, if you did raise you´re hand, you are a liar.

Honestly mate - I absolutely thought he would win. I thought he was the better player in the fourth. Nish just took advantage of a small window of opportunity. The fact he was serving first in the fifth was also pretty important.

Roger is unreal.

I've seen athletes play at a high level at 35, and even beyond (let's go Pats!), but I've never seen anyone *look* this good at 35. As in, his game literally just looks visually good. He glides around the court like a 29 year old. If I hadn't followed his game closely enough throughout the years to know that his movement has clearly regressed, you could really fool me by showing me his matches against Berdych and Kei and tell me it's from 2010 or something.

Greatest athlete since Michael Jordan. Well, him and Messi.

That said, the talk of a Fedal final is way too premature. Both these guys have looked better than expected but at this stage in their respective careers you can never discount sudden inconsistency and weird losses. The draw has definitely opened up by even if they play good, beating Wawrinka or Raonic respectively is far from a given.

Would be incredible if we got it in 2017 though.

I completely agree. My mentality with Roger these days is to enjoy the actual matches. Forget about the end goal. It's too emotionally draining otherwise, and frankly there are some big time ballers still left on both sides of the draw

Hmmmm.... and you are leading the bracket context. No hacking there too, course.
