What happened was a draw. Nothing to be done about that. They could still meet. If Roger gets through his quarter and Rafa through his...which would be excellent. A long shot, but stranger things have happened.

I thought the commentators said that on the first day of the tournament. I could've sworn they said they would meet in the third round and the draw was already out.

Federer was good save those several games in the third set that he tanked against Rubio when he wanted to play cat and mouse.

I think people made a joke about them meeting early because they were low in the rankings so there was a theoretical probability for them to meet early. Rafa's in Nole's half, Federer in Murray's, they can only meet in the final.

I watched all of the match. Another of his infamous meltdowns when he appeared to be close to winning in straight sets. When are the 'terrible two' - Kyrigos and Tomic - ever going to mature and fulfill their grand slam potential ?

Interesting irony is that Andres Seppi lost to Kyrigos two years ago, 8-6 in the fifth after leading 2 sets to 0 and a match-point.
This year it was the exact opposite.

I don't think Tomic has grand slam potential... maybe Top 10 potential (at best)... but Kyrgios is on a plane higher with regard to potential. Haven't watched the match yet... but saw he was 2 sets up... and then blew it... was it a personal implosion again? Did Seppi raise his game?

Welcome back by the way!

Man I can't stand either player.

At 4-5 games in the third set all NK exploded and threw down his racquet and was not the same since. Apathetic is what Commentator Jim Courier described.
Kyrigos actually held a match point just as Seppi did two years ago. Really bizzare stuff. His presser is coming up in 5 minutes time.

I can't see Roger or Rafa winning it but would be nice to seem them make the second week. Keeps things engaging.... love em or hate em... people watch em!

I'll have to watch the highlights... Nick can't seem to press the reset button.

The Seven television network is treating the Open as though it's the Olympics in their coverage.
Too many talking heads and extensive coverage on Seven and Seven two. It would be nice if they could divide it so as the aussies feature on Seven two and on Seven they could just focus on the top players.

Yep, that would make sense... not just an Australian thing though - happens at the USO and Wimbledon.

Bernard's through, finally defeats 36 year old Estrella Burgos in four close sets. Lucky it didn't go to five.
Next for Tomic is Daniel Evans.

Interesting comment from Nick's presser. What's with the reference to McEnroe, I wonder ?

"Q: What sort of pain is it?

Kyrgios: 'I don't know. Ask Johnny Mac. He knows everything.'"

McEnroe criticized Kyrgios for his lack of effort not once. This comment was in response to that. Cynical and bad attitude, on and off the court. I am happy he lost.

No real surprises today... I guess Mischa Zverev taking down Isner would be a marginal upset but nothing jaw dropping.

You missed the biggest, it seems. Cilic lost to D. Evans.
