Well done, Tomic. His encounter against Berdych should be very interesting. I can see it going five sets - the crowd will be an integral role, but it's certainly winnable. Just imagine Tomic and Nick reaching the QF. Wow!

Nice win for Tomic,I knew he could defeat Groth!!

You think he can finally beat Berdych? (See the posts above about their head-to-head.)

Yes I can,he will frustrate Tomas with the different off pace balls, like Murray in ways,I have never been a fan of Tomas and his game, also he dosent play the big points well,I rate him as a second tier player.I think Tomic has improved match by match. It will be a interesting match up.

I think Berdych-Tomic will be a night match on Rod Laver Arena.

Sela: 5'9", with a one-handed BH ... this should be a much smoother time for Rafa than the other night. It is odd, though, that he's never played two of the three guys before.

Very surprised to read that Richard Gasquet is down 6-4,7-6, to Kevin Anderson. I felt sure that Gasquet would win this match.

Ah well. I wake up and find Roger is out. Normally for the rest of the day there's a strangely empty feeling in my gut. Didn't even register today when I found out. Am I growing up at last? :)

And Bernie is what, a third tier player? He has the potential to frustrate Tomas, but that doesn't mean he will.

I was talking about Berdych's ranking maybe I should have clarified that in my post,I dont rate him,as high as Novak,Rafa,Federer or Murray,I think his wins show that over the years,to me he hasnt got the 'will to win,nor does he play the big points, like the other three'

Of course I dont have a crystal ball,I have been impressed with Tomic,to me he has improved with each match.

Haha! Happens to all of us. But from the little I've seen this wasn't about old age? I could be wrong... :)

This is the type of match-up Nadal needed. Someone with a one handed backhand who REALLY can't handle his spin (not on serve, not on groundies) without the power or movement to trouble him. Normally, I'd want something a little more challenging so that Nadal can play himself into form but after the other day's marathon I'll take this.

It's hard to really assess his performance though since the match-up suits him so well that he can just go through the motions with his usual pattern of play and get on with it. I like the slider out wide though. With Nadal's serve not clicking and his inability to win cheap points, he could at least rely on that serve to set up 1-2 punches. Not thrilled with the movement but he could be pacing himself.

Well, I mean, age is why Federer now loses matches he didn't use to before. He's just not as good. However, he got old years ago, so there's no point in bringing that up now (even though I just jokingly did). We can't hold him to the same standards anymore. However, even by his standards these days, he would definitely hope to play better in the future.

I agree about Berdych; my point is that Tomic is a third rate player. His best and most consistent shot is the gun he's taken to his career.

Is it me or is Nadal's cross court forehand lacking a little ferocity? Not sure if it's the court or the fact that he's hitting with more angle due to his opponent being one handed.
