3 double faults by Masha to give the game away, Knapp can't take advantage and gives the match away.
Sharapova had 67 unforced errors against 34 winners, Knapp did 55 UFE of her own against 20 winners.
What a error-fest.

Bring on Caro, she will play better Tennis.

What a fight - congrats to both players and specially Maria for her win. They should have covered that arena from the start. Ended with 43 centigrades!!! Terrible days for ballkids they get burned if they touch the surface. Well well:cool:

The error count is unbelievable. I am not sure whether the error count can be blamed
on the heat.

What is the current WTA record for joint UFE Count? Did Maria and Knapp beat it today?

You know they don't keep such stats!
They only keep the good ones.
;)

Caro takes the first set in 28 minutes, scores 6 winners against 3 UFE, 6-0 is the score... now that's what I am talking about.
Masha is lucky she wasn't facing Caro today!

I am not a big Caro fan. But, I think she will take out Aga as Aga seems to be going
through a bad patch. We might see a Caro vs. Vika QF.

With not much matches going on, it is trivia time. Can you name a WTA player
after whom a flower is named? Can you name a ATP player after whom an
asteroid is named?

I tend to watch some of the lesser known players, not that Carla Suarez-Navarro is that obscure, she played Galina Voskoboeva today. Always, like Galina,(very personable) and she was up 5-2 in the third set, and Navarro was literally working with just one good leg and was totally exhausted, yet found a way to win the decider, 8-6. An incredibly gutsy performance from the Spaniard, leaving Galina literally shaking her head, wondering how she let this match slip away? :puzzled

You got that right. That asteroid was discovered in 2003 at around the same time
Rafa was discovered too. But, it got named after Rafa much later. Till then it only
had a number.

I will hold on to the answer for the WTA trivia for 24 hours before releasing it.

I only saw the end of that, and I'm pleased for Carla, the wiley vet. Can you say more about her injury, ruby?

Looking at the score-board, I thought Carla was out for sure.
It was an awesome come-back.

I'm liking Caroline a lot this set. She's been aggressive, and also has used her defense well.

And she just got warned for coaching. Whatever.

Vi Vi Victoria, the rose. I think Azarenka would have been a better name

You got that. You get 100 points if you did not google it up and
0 points otherwise. ;)

VIVACIOUS Victoria Azarenka found out in the past week that a flower has been named after her. The honor was "amazing," Vika tweeted, and you can see the "Va-Va Victoria" blooms here. The flower's keepers say in a written statement exclusive to TENNIS.com “The HGTV HOME Plant Collection's Va-Va Victoria™ rose is beautiful, strong and resilient. We chose to name it after Victoria Azarenka because she represents all of these things.” So what about that Carefree Caroline? A Wozniacki homage? Answer: No.
