Wow. Good challenge. Looked in at first glance. The wind is really picking up out there.

Another example of her going crosscourt when she should have gone down the line yet again.

That's the 2nd marathon game that has resulted in her getting broken. Maka up 4-3

Well I feel bad for Venus but at the same time, one more game for Makarova wins me some nice ca$h.

Nothing's a given the way they both serve.

One more point. €200 at 6-1. Double with Flipkens to beat Robson.

Well I said Venus played the best set I've seen in years which is true. But it was just one set. Anyway, jing jing. Money in the bank.

Why do I set myself up only to be disappointed by Ms. V Williams? She played a vintage Venus game for a set and a half, then.............oh well on to the next one.

She's like the WTA's answer to Federer these days sadly. Occasional brilliance completely nullified by mostly slop, and at very inopportune times.

Ana just took the first set from Kiki.
Madison is keeping her good form, about to win the first set.
Genie is having a tough time against H. Tang of China, this is Genie's first Slam where she has been seeded, she is seeded #30

I've loved Venus Williams from the time I first saw those beads bouncing on court. But it is time. It's really just time. If it's not age its this very serious disease. It's depressing to watch such a great champion hold on this way. Please Venus just do doubles or retire.

I don't think it's down to her auto immune disease at this point. Jut inconsistency. Sure, it may impact her fitness at times and certainly zaps her energy but it's her fault for serving double faults at inopportune times, playing erraticly at bad times. Again, carbon copy of Federer minus the double faults. More consistency and she could have won that match.

After Bertens looked to be done in by the heat, now she's pushing Ivanovic around, who is now the one who looks a bit withered.

If Ana doesn't put more on her shots, she might be joining Venus in a depressing presser.

Zakopalova's ball toss is very like like Steffi Graf's. She throws it up miles into the air. She can throw in a lot of DFs or a lot of good serves and aces. Very erratic. Some good serves last game though.
