Nice hitting for the break and the set. Two more to go Holger.
He got broken now early in the 4th. Did he get up on a wrong foot? He should be able to handle a guy outside of top 100. I want Rune to win, but this is not looking good.

I like the Frenchman’s mettle. It seems sometimes that young Holger expects a match to be deserved without working for it. Then his opponent puts up a fight and he gets like ths. At least he held and is only down 1 break.

I truly hope that he can mentally lock things down so that he doesn’t let these lower ranked players into a match. It is a frustrating fan ride between his brilliance and mediocrity on the Holgercoaster. If he pulls it out and wins tonight, how much physical capital (that he’ll need for later) has he used up?

Oh my, if Shelton lost like that, he would have been grilled. But some of you are going to make excuses for this Holger loss.

The slams are where you prove yourself. Shelton did that at the US Open. Holger hasn't even proven that he can get out of the early rounds of a slam.

What do you mean? He reached the QF of Wimbledon. Shelton went deep once, but so did JJ…

Who’s making excuses? Read the previous posts. I think there‘s a fair assessment of the young Dane’s downside. He’s a great talent that needs to discipline himself mentally. Shelton is in the same boat. It’s called being young and needing to mature.

That said, I think both lads need different coaches than the ones they have now. Shelton’s father has brought him this far and I think he needs to step back or away and let someone else take his son to the next level. While Becker may understand Rune’s temperament, I doubt he’s the guy to help bring the mental discipline Holger needs to maximize his potential.

Much truth. I hear Ivan is available.

This is trollish behavior at best. You're better than this. No one is going to make a big stink if Ben goes out early. He hasn't achieved what the Dane has, nor is he ranked in the top 10 yet. Expectations are always higher for the top 10.

Meanwhile vowel dude has Meddy scratching his head early 3-0

And the serveboot Hubi is down 2 sets to 1

In completed matches, Felix and Humbert come through in 4. Fils is out to the Griek and Foki goes down in straights.

4U’s slowly getting sucked into the pace of the Medvedev metronome. Daniil gets the break back in the 2nd set. 3-3.

When I turned on this match early in the 2nd set, Pam Shriver set, "The best part of Medvedev's game today is his sarcasm towards his bench." James Blake then said, "At least the most consistent." :lulz1:

Anyway, Medvedev just won the 3rd set.

I think it's pretty ridiculous that they are still playing this match at 4:30 in the morning. Maybe the solution isn't to get rid of all Bo5, but rather, reward players who win the first two sets. I'd much rather see them be rewarded a 2-sets-to-none win, than to have to play additional sets (this will come handy later in the tournament). That saves a lot of time and energy, and would get rid of most of the ridiculous overnight finishes. To me, if a player doesn't win either of the first two sets, they don't deserve a 3rd set.

No! no, no, no. Let's not suggest tampering with the best of five format. Players have won GS finals coming back from two sets down. The problem is in scheduling. Not the scoring system. This is not the WTA, we don't have men play BO3 in slams...
