I read that 'The Tignor" ( tennis.com) has picked Sabalenka to win? I agree she has played well in the tournament she won in Adelaide, and the serve is better, goodness me it could not get any worse, she top the list of most DFS in 2022, still this is a major and we have seen she 'melts' at times in the big points, in big matches, has The Tignor given her a 'death wish' I guess we will see.
( I know AF is a closet Sabalenka fan lol! )
Can't stand her shrieks LOL, maybe Kanepi v Sabalenka quarterfinal will happen. Closet Banshee/Danyell fan although she is a brat/diva on the court

Nice first wins for Coco Gauff and Jess Pegula

Goodness me how wrong was I in picking Amanda #28 the first seed to lose 63 64 to Marta Kostyuk, Amanda has not been the same player since she parted with Darren Cahill, she is a good ball striker, is good on the HC, from what I just read Amanda was in tears before the match had ended.
Nice win for Emma Radancu after she rolled her ankle and had to retire in a tournament before the AO, she gets to play Coco Guaff next.

There are a few players that it's hard to know what to do with, and Radacanu is one, but I want to have faith in her.

I like Emma, though she has to stay with the one coach, hopefully she can, she has had too many coaching changes since she won the USA. though I feel Coco will be too strong for her at this stage, I was impressed with Coco in Auckland

Another seed bites the dust Bouzkova #25 beaten by Andresscu in straight sets ( I picked that one lol! )
Forget that Ash Barty is mentoring a young Aussie who was given a WC Oliva Gadecki, she won, another loss for me lol!

That one was a tough call, though. I think I went with Andreescu in the draw.

Goodness The Banshee No 13# seed, with 40 UFE is going to a 3rd set, she was R/U to Ash Barty last year at the AO
Going 3 sets now against Russian Kalinskaya
The Banshee survives 64 in the 3rd set

She was out there in full voice MM. I had to mute the TV seeing her get bent out of shape in the decider. I thought she was goinna choke away this match like she did in Adelaide last week.

Maybe it's just me, but it looks like Coco has put on some muscle especially in her upper body. She doesn't appear as tall and lanky as previously stated. Either it's more muscle or maybe she's growing right before our eyes into full blown womanhood.

Apparently Maria Sakkari thinks that Rod Laver court is too slow, maybe if she cut off the top notch on top of her head, she may be able to move quicker around the court

As I expected Jule Niemeier giving Swiatek a tough battle 4 all 1st set
Swiatek breaks to take the 1st set 64 a lot of UFE, got the job done eventually
Niemeier up a break in the 2nd set, taking the ball on early, giving Swiatek no time to reset, her feet, or her shots, this is the way you can defeat Iga especially on a HC, Miemeier is pushing Iga off the baseline, also attacking her 2nd serve and getting results
Iga dosent like a shot that is hard and flat up the middle of the court as well.
Good hold from Niemeier down a couple of BPs and held leading 5-3 2nd set
Iga steps up and for the first time in the 2nd set, controls the court and breaks Niemeir serving for the 2nd set 5 games all
Swiatek d Niemeier in 2 tight sets 64 75, Miemeier went toe to toe with Iga in this match, she can be very proud of her overall performance...her ranking of 69 does not do her justice at all.

Leylah Fernandez defeated Alize Cornet who was defending QF points at the AO in 2022, in straight sets 75 62
Cornet will lose lots of points and will drop out of the Top 50
