Never mind that Federer beat Djokovic the last time they played so I doubt he was exactly trembling with fear and invented an imaginary injury! He'd certainly have played if he could. Shame he couldn't as millions worldwide wanted to watch that final but given he's only ever given one other walkover in 1221 matches (!) it'd take a real clown to accuse him of faking an injury.

That happened 5 days before Jelena gave birth, Nole was restless that whole week in Shanghai.;)

You would buy any kind of crap that Federer sells, wouldn't you? Well the same with Djokovic fans, so don't think you are better than us.:snigger

^ I think NadalRG2005 is worse but I won't deny part of that might be my own hatred for all things Rafa!

If anything he's showing Novak respect.

But how is it showing respect when Fed doesn't turn up for the closing ceremony and doesn't congratulate the winning champ after the competition? To me, it sounds like sourest of grapes. Roger said he "cannot compete at the same level with Novak", which is fair enough but why throw in an invented injury and run off? Should've stayed on, watched the exhibition match, participated in the ceremony. Things would've looked OK then. But to make a lame excuse, take the money and run doesn't somehow cut it....

Invented injury? He must be really terrified of Djokovic to invent an injury ahead of the 5th biggest final of the season. :cover I say it now and say it again, Nole and Rafa fans have no room to talk about someone wussing out of an event, and shady crap like fake medical timeouts, etc.

Don't make me bring out this presser....ooops, too late...;)

No one said anything about being better than any fanbase but to accuse the guy of faking an injury when he's given only 2 walkovers in 1221 matches takes a special kind of person. Novak said that was the best match Roger played against him ever so don't buy into the restless excuse too much :p Quite sure if he could've won the tournament he would have.

Front, while I agree with you, I need to correct you on the facts. Roger has now given walkover
three times. Once in QF against Blake, once in SF against Tsonga and now to Novak in F.

Also, he has never quit in the middle of any match and has always given the satisfaction
to the opponent of completing the job of beating him.

That is really an amazing record when you think about the total number of matches he
has played.

His health has been incredible. Had he been unable to finish a match, however, he would have stopped during one...

Come on Darth, nobody realistically thinks Federer chickened out. He couldn't play because he was injured. End of story. But there's no need to slag off Rafa, who's missed chunks of his peak through injury. :Nono

It was in 2012 -- the SF against Tsonga mentioned above.

just watched Roddick's presser following the thrashing he suffered at Roger's hands at the AO again. I really miss Roddick. He was a character!

Yes, but let's keep in mind that a player stopping during a match doesn't mean they can't continue. I'd have a REAAAAAAAAAAAALLY hard time believing Novak's sore throat prevented him from finishing the match with Roger in Monte Carlo a few years back, for example.

No, that's true. From reports on the match, he heard an icecream vans cheerful jingle out of the grounds and saw daddy put his hand in his pocket.

But they're not all the same... :devil

Spy cameras got this:

Federer comes from the buffet table with some granolla and yougurt and meets two fellow Swiss at breakfeast.
-- Morning guys. Beautifull day, isn't it? (*)
-- Yeah, beautifull day. Have you tried their black bread? It is very good.
-- Really? I'll grab a piece.
Severin Luthi is the one talking to Federer. The other one, a young physiatrist, only muttered an embarrased 'morning, Mr Federer'.
-- After casually chew some more bread, SL starts a difficult topic.
-- Look, Roger, you better not practice today...
-- Why the hell would I miss practice today?
-- Well, people are not buying the injury thing.
-- How the hell they're not buying it? I gave a speech! I said sorry! I made my best sorry smile. What they wanted? They wanted me to cry again? I'm sick of it...
-- I don't know Roger, but they're not buying. The comments on the ATP site are not too good, the people on the foruns are not buying it.
-- On my site?
-- Of course they are buying it on your site. But...
Federer sighs. -- Ok, I see. You are probably using that one as reference.
-- Which one?
-- That one where you have a funny moniker. The one full of Rafa fans.
-- Well... that too, but that's not the only one. Anyway it is exaclty them you have to convince.
Federer sighs again. Slams the table -- Damn! All right, all right, I won't practice.
Silence.
-- Damn!
--Look, Roger, I know it is hard, but we have to do it. We'll say it on the presser. We'll have to adress Stan's match too.
-- My life is a living hell... why can't he do it alone?
-- Well, we have to look like a team. But, hey, this is funny, right? They all think is Mirka.
-- Yeah, yeah... at least she can control one of the twin girls... I'll have to fix this myself again.
The physio was listening carefully to everything, trying desperately to find an inteligent remark. He got up to get himself some coffe, and put up all his courage to say:
-- Well, at least the boys are still young. Boys are always worst, right?
After he leaves, Federer looks at Luthi, gets up, and while leaving says angrily:
-- Make sure this guy is fired by the afternoon.
