Guys, this isn't about confidence ffs. Don't get Carol started. There are tons of things wrong with his game.

Well, Carol and Bodo, let's be more clear. And I think confidence raises a players levels in all areas of their game too. it's not all about confidence, but until that gets sorted, we can't know what % the rest of it is...

Bodo's far from an expert and like most here can't even see Nadal is slower, which means not only running around the court but reaction speeds, getting to shots, lining up shots, his forehand is very erratic, he hits it very short a lot of the time (since around 2009 now this has been the case) and his serve is easy to return. His game won in the past due to its physicality and now that this is noticeably fading away along with his muscles, so is he.

All of the above could be helped by confidence. But brother, why diss Bodo so? You're far from an expert yourself. About 270 kilometres - on the Cork to Dublin road... :snicker

Sorry dude, confidence doesn't make you faster, stronger and give you muscles. I clearly analyze the scenario better than Bodo.

Thiem through, waiting for Nadal.
I am interested in Dominic's improvement on clay, because I think this is the surface where his best chances are to make a real breaktrough. Playing Nadal will be a good barometer.

No, he won't beat Rafa. You can use the number of games he wins as barometer.

GSM, never bet on tennis matches. You will lose your pants!;)

It's called "DOUBT!" You might have heard of it! Most of Rafa's "ills" could be cured with a few big wins! I'm tellin' ya, his confidence has to be shot; esp. after losing a 5 setter at USO against Fabio! :nono :ras: :cover

Actually, confidence does make you move better, run faster, hit harder. Tentative, nervous players are far more restricted and tight in every way...

Thiem to serve for the set. I know he's older than Coric, but I like him a LOT better. More "grit" to his soul than I've ever seen from Coric.

Perhaps so, but just remember that the difference is three years - which is ages of developmental time. Chances are Coric will be a better player.

Exactly. I don't know why people keep comparing these two. It's kind of random. It makes more sense to compare players of the same generation.

The only thing tight about him is his underpants. He's older and slower and while you can add back muscle, lost speed and agility is not returning with age.

He's a veteran, no doubt about it, aging gracefully and naturally as all old tennis players must. Well, nearly all of them :dodgy: . But none of this denies that if he was a more confident veteran, then he'd be doing better than he is...

Exactly. I don't know why people keep comparing these two. It's kind of random. It makes more sense to compare players of the same generation. Both are the best for their respective age groups. Thiem is the highest ranked player in the world under 25, and Coric is the highest ranked player in the world under 20.

A more fair comparison would be comparing Thiem and, say, Tomic - i.e. they're around the same age, and incidentally right next to each other in the rankings at 19 and 20 respectively. Coric, on the other hand, should be being compared to the teenagers, and he is the highest ranked teenager in the world by a massive margin. He's at 38, and the next highest ranked teenager is Chung at 69.

Rafa does have some techincal and athelti cisses, but....so many of the matches Rafa has lost over the past year or so have been very close, and Rafa has lost them because he got tight on the big points. i mean, it's not ;like he's being blown off the court. It's coming down to one or two moments, where the old Rafa would have played better, and the current Rafa plays worse. That's confidence, pure and simple.

Incidentally, amazing that that the highest ranked player under 25 is only no.19 in the world! Has that ever happened before? I doubt it!

I suppose the most curious aspect of this match is the sinister return of Bodo. Where was he hiding? Is he scribbling a book on the sly?

He's pretty much only on ESPN these days. I didn't even think he was still writing for tennis.com.

Rafa's earnings have become so less, nowadays he indulges in match fixing. What can I do? :cover

I did not see the match thinking Rafa will lose in the finals and I was planning to see the finals.
