Jarry quickly out, beaten by Sonego. Two times in a row losing in the first round to guys ranked outside of the top 100, at that time.

I heard he had announced that Madrid shall be his last tournament. He has been given a WC in Madrid. I don't know for sure, but probably Madrid is his home town.

Assuming that he is a clean athlete, I have a lot of respect for Ferrer. He is an epitome of how to get the maximum out of oneself, even if one's talents are limited. He worked hard and achieved the maximum that he could get out of his limited talent.

His hometown is just outside of Valencia, btw. So more of a Catalan, but Madrid is after Barcelona, so he should go there, too, and wrap it up.

Front likes to make snide remarks about him, but I agree he worked very hard for what he achieved and was a dogged competitor.

Not many players can look back and say, I won 27 titles and was ranked 3 in the world.

I'll start a thread when he actually does quit, or someone will, so I'll leave off the "obit" for now, but you make a very good point.

I will alsoalso participate in that "obituary" thread, as an admirer of Ferru

Ferrer beat Jaziri in straights. YES! BTW, Ferrer won the first 15-13 in the TB. This is all you need to know about Ferrer.

according to l'Equipe, Sabatini, Monaco and many others made a tribute to David yesterday, just before his match...he didn't know and was happily surprised , he's such a nice guy that he deserved that for sure

Cecchinato just beat Garin, who didn't go down without a fight. But he hasn't really made the noise that his early promise was giving us reason to hope for. Still, Cecchinato is ranked 75 places higher and is the guy that took Novak out of RG last year.
