Kiu, thanks for the update. I was concerned it was an injury.

Some really interesting matches, pity I cannot make it to Apia International,I have a urgent dentist appointment, though I will be attending Apia later in the week.

Some of the matches that have caught my attention are,

Peng v Kvitova,I hope Petra finds her serve in Sydney,I was disappointed in her last match, where it went AWOL and she lost the match.

Halep v Pliskova,Halep will be tested by Karolina,Karolina has been playing good solid tennis of late, impressed with her win over Azarenka at Brisbane

Cibulkova v Gajdosova.I am tipping a upset in this match,I was impressed with Jarmila yesterday in her match,if she brings that game to this match,I feel she can win.

Gavrilova (soon to be a Aussie) v Kerber.Kerber had the doctor on court yesterday in her match, checking her blood pressure,I stayed for a little while,Kerber appeared to be alright and went on to win her match.I am impressed by Gavrilova, especially her win over Belinda Bencic.
I am with you on a possible upset, Gajdosova over Cibulkova, kind of a nice rhyme to it.

Muguruza d Radwanska(3) 36 76(4) 62

Garbine played a aggressive and controlled match,I love the way she takes the ball early, always moving up the court,to end the point quickly. She did have the trainer on court for her ankle, just to be re-taped,though her movement to me wasn't hindred at all.

Aga and her serve? which I have always said is the weak point in her game, especially her 2nd serve which is weak and very attackable,Garbine used this to her advantage many times in the match, also Garbine is a very strong hitter of the ball,Aga could not match her in strength.

Congratulations Garbine a well deserved win!

Meanwhile Stosur is struggling on court against Strycova..
Strycova won the 1st set 76(1)...Stosur's fhand and serve has gone AWOL,her body language isnt good, she keeps looking around at her coach.Strycova is playing a controlled aggressive match, she leads 3-0 in the 2nd set.

^ Good. She played last week and won a tournament. She doesn't need another week deep into a tournament.

1-4 out (ups Kvito still in the game - but for how long)- why are they allowed to play in Sydney. They are allowed I know but the Sydney tournament is a bit ruined by this and there should be a week free of tennis before the Australian Open as it's in the beginning of the season IMHO

BTW results from today is on page 1.

Good call, Jarmila the wild card upsets the #7 seed

Mugu is a big girl, she must be 6 foot tall, normally --> unless you are named Serena or Masha, she will out-gun you.

Simona Halep just gave her notice, she is out of Sydney due to gastrointestinal illness.

I don't believe its real but either way its a smart move. Im a firm believer that if a player has already had match play there is no reason to be playing the week before a slam. Two weeks before is fine.

Daria Gavrilova (W) (soon to be a Aussie) keeps on impressing me.She won the 1st set in a close t/breaker against Kerber,Kerber had a break in the 2nd set,Daria got the break back and now has consolidated the break and leads 5-4 2nd set.

I think they keep it on the schedule because there are some players who may not come down early and want some matches before going to the slam. Others may have entered Auckland or Brisbane and went out early thus not getting enough matches and can ask for a wildcard into Sydney.

I understand why it's still around, I just don't understand some players who played several matches last week wanting to play this tournament too.

I think there will be more with-drawls.
There were 2 today. Maddie Keys did mid match and the Spaniards withdrew in dubs.

Last match ended at 03.10 local Sydney time - must be a record?

I know that there are matches behind due to the rain delays
Quite frankly this is disgusting scheduling from the powers at be at Apia International
To finish a match at 3.10 am in the morning? I am speechless quite frankly.
Credit to Kerber and Gavrilova.
