Yeah Rafa of 06 on grass certainly looked more capable than the Novak that Rafa mopped up at USO in 2010 and 2013...

By getting bageled 6-0 in the first set? Please. Novak had already historically dominated Rafa on hard courts before that 2010, and certainly before that 2013, so the chances of him beating Nadal there were significantly bigger than Nadal, who had only played 8 or 9 CAREER MATCHES ON GRASS, beating Roger Federer in the 2006 Wimbledon final.

Sorry, but the selective argumentation is hilarious, especially the one ignoring that most of the tour takes place on hards, where Novak in 2011-until today is way more formidable than Nadal ever was in 04-07. Not to mention, Novak had already reached the top of the tennis world, so even from a pure perception standpoint, he was a bigger threat.

Yeah but you're comparing Nadal on hard court to Roger on grass and there is no comparison. Of course Nole's chances coming in figured to be higher than Rafa's at 06 Wimbledon. But that doesn't negate the fact that Nadal put up a bigger fight in 06 Wimbledon than Nole put up at USO last year which wasn't the least bit competitive.

Novak reached the top of the tennis world on Rafa's watch, younger Rafa had a tougher task in 05-07.

Darth, I find myself defending Nole a lot in this thread, for some odd reason, but I think it's because you keep loading the deck.

Rafa was down 6-0 before he'd gotten his bearings, then he chunked an opportunity, serving for the second at 5-4. Remember when he was young and innocent, he used to struggle serving out sets? So he was two sets down, and Roger was home. Rafa won the third and Roger raced to 5-1 in the fourth. He was clearly superior and added to this, Rafa wasn't ready to challenge him.

In last years US Open final, Nole was outplayed in the first but turned the match about to level it and then lead with a break in the historic and titanic third set.

How the heck can you say that this match "wasn't the least bit competitive?" :Lolz:

Novak was putrid in set 4 don't forget and he really let set 3 slip when he had major chances.

Rafa wasn't so hot in the fourth against Roger in 2006 - down 5-1 in jig time. let's not make silly comparisons, Nole was close to taking that third set and he was more than capable of winning the match.

Rafa was out of his depth against Roger at Wimbledon in 2006...

Sets 1 and 4 were a complete beatdown last year and Nole was never close to taking the 3rd set, thus the 6-4 score. Rafa broke back at 3-3 and we all knew how the set was going to end. A little dose of hyperbole to call that set historic and titanic methinks.

We know why you "find yourself defending Nole" just like we know why you make Rafa sound like a complete scrub until 2008.

Darth, you obviously didn't see that match. let me give you a quick refresher on the third set: at 4-4 it was 0-40 for Nole on Rafa's serve.

I still can't see how you think Rafa's baby-effort in 2006 against Roger on grass compares, especially since, as you put it, "Sets 1 and 4 were a complete beatdown" in that match, but unlike Novak, Rafa lost set two and never was in the lead... :nono

I saw it alright. And after Nole disappeared once up 3-1 in the 3rd I knew the match was over. Regardless, this is still comparing someone playing Rafa at USO vs. someone else playing 2006 Roger at Wimbledon. There is an enormous difference in competition there no? Kind of akin to me comparing someone giving Roger slight problems at AO to someone losing easy to Rafa at RG...

Yeah, you're right there: Roger playing a Wimbledon final against a relative newcomer to the surface, who's playing in only his ninth grass court match, is a much better proposition than Rafa facing the world number 1, a HC expert and a former champ who's playing in his fifth US Open Final.

Good point, buddy... :clap
