No weak competition. Novak was legit even back then. Obviously not the player he went on to become, but already the 3rd best player in the world. He was also down when he retired. It doesn't matter what kind of victory it was since Rafa didn't end up winning the tournament that year anyway.

The "injury" was blisters. Let's not overstate it. That was still back in Nole's "someone breathed on me so I'll retire" phase.
So which way does that cut here? Does that make it one of those "weak competition" victories that many like to discount? To me, the most important fact is that Rafa owns 2 Wimby titles to Nole's 1, so he gets the edge on grass.
