He'll be facing the cream of the crop there. Don't expect too much from him.

Some fans have the tendency to go overboard. I see Grigor getting towards the end phases of the big events, but winning them? Not just yet.

Likewise. He only barely beat Janowicz last week and was far from convincing against Goffin last week and today lost to him. I'm not calling this fatigue considering he was far from great against him last week. Down 4-0 in set 1 last week. He strikes me as yet another guy who can play a few great matches every so often and that's it. Hope to be proven wrong though as his game really is a lot like Federer's and he's great to watch when playing well. Backhand needs some improvement though.

I am absolutely delighted by Pierre Hugues Herbert performance. Too good, I love his serve-volley style, job very well done!
Domi gets an early ticket to Rio, long way to fly anyway :)

Ummm... Quite like Herbert but wanted Thiem to take this tournament by the horns. No can do.

So Herbert gets Goffin and Tsonga plays Berdych in the semis.

I watched mostly the 2nd set of Dimitrov/Goffin, and a little of Herbert/Thiem, and was surprised by both. A little bit of burnout from Grigor and Dominic? Not a great sign this early in the year, and now Thiem switches continents and surfaces. I'm going to go old-school and hope that Tsonga takes the title.

This wasn't a bad loss for Grigor. He was just a bit too paasive and got into too many extended rallies with Goffin, who seems to thrive in these conditions. A shame for his ranking really, he could have been top 10 with a title in Rotterdam. I guess he was fatigued as well.

Not such a bad loss. Goffin played really well.

As of now also it's not an upset as Goffin is the higher ranked player for quite some time.

Yes he did. Happy for Goffin, I do like the way he plays. I just think if Dimi is a big time baller he takes that one. I remember when Delpo was climbing up the rankings he ruthlessly closed out the 250s. It really made me sit up and notice. Remember a few years back when Roger made a play for the number one ranking? He played here I think and ran roughshod over the field. That's what a big time baller does

That is the issue. Did Dimitrov ever played like a big time baller? He is 25y old and all he has are 2 SF in slams to his resume. And no MS finals either.
Fans just get carried away by his shot making skills, but a player needs more than that to be a great player.

I know you like Tsonga, but I would like to see some new blood to take this title.

Jo Willie and David make the final.
The story will be that David Gofin is guaranteed a top 10 ranking comes Monday for the first time, and he is the first Belgian to do so.
In case he will win, he could be ranked 8.

Not that it matters, but he will be number 7, as he will have 3445 points, just 35 ahead of Cilic, the current number 7.
And what a fun final, Goffin and Tsonga. Can't say I am too excited about this one to be honest.
Dubai it is then.

You are right. I forgot to check how many points Cilic has.
