Hey Rafanoy,

Rafa has played 38 majors in total, reached the final of 20 of them. If we disregard the first four as mere infant slams (2003 and 2004), then that's 20 finals out 34 majors, starting in 2005. It's a fairly hectic rate...

Incredible, Rafanoy. The man is unique. I'm not saying this to put anyone down, but we should appreciate him because the style of play he has, many said he'd be burnt out and finished at the age of 25.

The 10 might be even greater, since it's the greatest record of consistency in tennis. I thought 8 was gonna be the limit, with Borg, Pete and Roger, but 10 consecutive years of winning majors is staggering.

By the way, I know it's none of my business, but I'd love to know what Rafa said to the great uncle T when he went among his people...

can I stay up late until 9:30pm tonight please uncle ?.:)

It's not impossible that he wins a few more, but bear in mind, if you think he'll win "25 or more", he's only won 14 by now - and he's going to almost double this? Unlikely, bro, and for me he's the greatest player I've seen. But not even Rafa is winning 2 slams a year for the next 6 or 7 years...

greatest you've seen already? you left Pete in the dust so quickly ;)

Another interesting stat is that Rafa has faced Roger and Nole, his two great rivals, 14 times over five sets on clay - and dropped only 11 sets. That's fairly remarkable.

11 times in Paris - and dropped 8 sets...

Most importantly, he never dropped 3 sets to them in the same match.

Well, I didn't want to turn it into a completely bragging thread. :snigger

But it does show how difficult beating him over five on clay is: 90 wins now, one loss? That's just ridiculous... :nono

I actually came here to bring up this exact stat: 90-1. It's beyond ridiculous. Luckily, he's yet to play Gulbis and Nishikori in a RG final.

He's fecked if he faces Stanley Wow! or Dolgo... :nono

EDIT: Actually, I way too lazy and contented to look this stuff up, but has he dropped even 20 sets over those 90 wins?

Yeah, certainly. Off the top of my head, he's dropped 7 to Federer alone. He's dropped 4 to Novak. That's 11. He dropped one to Del Potro and one to Roddick in Davis Cup matches. That's 13. He dropped 3 to Soderling (urgh!). That's 16. He had a couple of five setters with Coria. That's 20. And I'm sure he's lost about 10 more at least, from various matches at Roland Garros.

Leaving out Sod, because his isn't one of the Mighty 90, we have 11 against Fed-Nole, we have 2 against Isner, 2 against delPo-Roddick, 1 against Ferrer...hang on, I'll do some school work on this one....

He's lost a set to Mathieu, a set to Hewitt, a set to Brands and a few other random early round matches. He's dropped a set to Puerta in the 2005 final. He's dropped a set to Grosjean in 2005 IIRC. Come to think of it, Rafa isn't as dominant as I thought :laydownlaughing

Another "10" for Rafa this year: only man to win an MS title 10 seasons in a row...

His conversion rate in the business end of grand slams is incredible and this is where I believe his greatest strength lies.

He has made 20 finals out of 27 quarter final appearances ( which is insane ) and won 14 ( which everyone knows ).

Here another thing: Nadal has won his last 12 semifinals appearances in a Major. His last lost in a Major semifinals was in 2009 US Open against Del Potro.

He is 20-3 in Major semifinals.

Great stats!

Also, this was his 20th slam final, one ahead of Lendl, and four behind Roger...

Congrats to the great champion , he looked poor this whole clay season but upped his level when it mattered the most and took the crown. Really a big match player

Nadal also won his 50th consecutive semi final on clay in either Madrid or Rome, so he's up to 51 or 52 consecutive semi final wins on clay since he lost one, I believe to Carlos Moya (so a while ago).
