Good match and Rune playing slightly better. He had a chance to close out the set at that point 15-40 4x5, he had a short in the middle of the court, but he chose to play it safe...

Tie break it is.

Rune closes the first. Nice set of tennis, only little thing is that both players sometimes would get a bit tight in the big moments, but I am being over perfectionist.

And, given that I opened that door myself, Rune's forehand mechanics may be effective, but is quite strange.

He can still hold the battle ax that way…

Been a while since Rune won a tournament. Great week for him and from what I've seen today, well deserved too.

Anyhow, one more big tournament that is "Sin-free." Not sure how much Alcaraz is ailing, so we'll see how he looks in Madrid.

Hopefully Holger can build on this victory and take one of the next two Masters. If he does, he's a seriously contender at Roland Garros.

I had computer trouble again,
I can finally post,
Due to Alcaraz loss and Zverev winning the title in Munich
Zverev moves to No 2 ranking and Alcaraz back to No 3 ranking
Rune will be ranked No 9

Could it be that we're finally seeing the little Viking take that next step forward?
I hope so. I'll tell you something I've noticed from him that I think bodes well...he's lost a bit of his arrogance. I think the past couple of years have taught him something about humility, which is not a bad thing.

Maybe he has grown up, I also think re hiring Lars Christensen was a very good choice, tennis wise.
This is Rune first title since 2023? lets see if he can produce consistent results from now on. I am not saying he can be a serious contender after one title win today, lets see how he goes in Madrid, which I take no notice of, and Rome which is more important lead up to RG
I also hope the injury for Alcaraz isnt serious.

It’s a fine line, isn’t it? I mean, all the champs have arrogance & swagger but they realize they are not “entitled” to win; requires hard work & perseverance.

So hopefully little Holger is learning that it’s not going to be handed to him, he has to work harder than ever to get to the next level. That “humility” is essential IMO.

ETA: I do feel of all the young guns, his touch around the net is exceptional. Some of his net instincts just make me smile.

For the French Open it would potentially be huge if Little Holger cracks the top 8 before, guarantees he would not have to face Alcaraz/Sinner until at least the QTRS at Roland Garros.
