These wildcards should be given to deserving players and Emma is not deserving.I am beginning to suspect that she took something to win the way she did,and she had to win in NY because of the sponsors. Her agent wants money ...a lot and just suspicious of her and her team. The way she won in NY reminds me of the way pova won at Wimbledon.I see retiring early and joining another eisenbuddy Laura Robson doing commentary.
Well I looked up the official rule for wild cards per the WTA rule book and as a GS champion or a winner of the WTA finals you can receive unlimited wild cards in a season.
Emma to date has not played anywhere near the level that she did winning the USO, changes coaches like the wind, gets injured, had to spend time off court with wrist and ankle surgery
Emma still racks in the sponsors due to her agent, and could retire tomorrow with the money she has earned to date, still sponsors are not going to sponsor her when she keeps going out in 1st or 2nd rounds of any tournament, if they do 'they have more money than sense"..

I really like EN. As her confidence grows, she will be deadly
Emma is into the Top 25 after reaching the SF in San Diego, she will play Katie Boulter on Saturday, success does breed confidence

In the first SF at San Diego,
Katie Boulter was just on 'fire' the best I have seen her play, though she has played well in this tournament, defeating the No 3 seed Emma Navarro 63 61 to be the first woman to make the final ( biggest final of her career and her first WTA 500 final)
Well done Katie!

Jess was leading at one stage in this 1st set 5-2 , sloppy tennis and let Kostyuk back in, served for the 1st set 5-4, broken back on serve in the 1st set 5 all
6 games all, TB for the 1st set has begun.
Kostyuk too strong in the TB and wins the 1st set 76(4)

She drops the TB and is already down a break in the 2nd. And she has doubs to play later tonight. Even if she somehow makes it through this match, she will be in no shape to play the F tomorrow. She hasn't learned anything about scheduling doubs in these small tournaments. It doesn't appear a coaching change is going to fix her head when it comes to scheduling. I would have a clause in the contract that while under my tutelage, she has to do as instructed (which would include scheduling, training, goals, etc) or I walk.

MM, You know what I've noticed about Jess? She duplicates what her countrywoman is constantly guilty of. Like Keys, when the pressure is really on, she plays down to the level of her competition. No good reason the #1 seed at a 500 event should be going out in the SF to a club level player like Marta.

it will be interesting to see what doubles tournaments Pegula and Coco enter this year, I hope they just play the majors, for 2024

Sakkari has nabbed David Witt..
Maybe he can help her. I don't believe she can get much worse with David. He' a firm believer in consistency, point construction and moving forward. One thing I will say is if her and Jess play each other, advantage Goddess. Witt will know exactly how to dismantle Jess's game.

Unless Katie is a complete bundle of nerves tomorrow, I give her the edge and she should match her BMF
