This match was much closer than the result suggests. Well done Zheng.

Did you guys notice unorthodox tehnique on Zheng serve? @the AntiPusher @MargaretMcAleer. She stretches her arm so wide during the loading and even goes with her racket behind her shoulder-hand line, more to the left, which is considered a no go, but oh boy, does she unload it then huge. Really interesting serve she has.

I noticed that Mary C said something about Donna needing to take time to enjoy her time on the court.. I always felt like she seems to be miserable on the court.

Very frosty. Vekic probably gutted by her level, she could have done more, resist more, make it harder for the Chinese.

The match was closer than the score line suggested Donna had her chances to break and win the 2nd set, her UFE count of 31 did cost her and not being able to convert BPs at crucial times in the match

This pretty much sums it up.

Indeed a truly unorthodoz serve, though it works for her Don!

Silver is still huge and more than we hoped for. She lost against more crafty opponent. I like Zheng.
Zheng has improved this year since that awful final at the AO, anyway lets see how she handles the HC of the American swing and the USO, there is a quick change around from clay to HC for all the players

It's doing wonders for her game. Olympic gold, who would have thought? Iga was a number one favorite. I had hard time to imagine anyone else to win this, but Zheng proved to be a worthy winner.

Zheng should be the prototype for how important it is for a tennis players has to control their emotions on the court.. Its very few like McEnroe, Serena, Novak, Roger and Rafa (not so much for Rafa and Roger) who lose control of their emotions during a match but use it as control rage rather than anger to win a match.. e.g. there was a match in AO years ago when Serena was having a funky day on the court. Serena wore a skirt wrapping around her waist. Serena was down a set and during a change over ripped off the covering and totally annihilated her opponent. Players like Coco has to learn that you can fight the battle inside your head and across the net.

Quite frankly I felt Iga Swiatek put too much pressure on herself to win the Gold Medal she was in tears after the match when Zheng beat her
Iga had a 6-0 over Zheng before the Olympic match
Putting that aside if it was a match on tour at RG would Zheng have won? Hmmm to be seen.
Anyway will I stay up and watch my lovable Head Case Musetti try to win Bronze for Italy it is nearly 3am in the morning here, and I have had enough expresso's to last me well into next week:)

We always used to say, you play 2 opponents. 1 against the net and 1 in your head/yourself. Once you manage what's inside your head and beat that opponent, it almost doesn't even matter who is across the net, you are going to win. Coco is getting too emotional and needs to sort that stuff.

Apart from Coco getting too emotional that FH let her down time amd time again at the Olympics, Brad has done nothing to get that fhand better, her serve also needs attention, she is the defending champion at the USO, in my opinion Coco has has a poor year, the only time she has played well was at the AO

It's really something, the OG pressure. Novak puts tremendous amount of pressure on him every OG. For some players it obviously means so much and the fact that this tourney is every 4 years, makes this process even harder to manage, the fear of the lost opportunity is real.

For tennis history books it doesn't mean much this tournament, some players don't even care to play, but for some it becomes almost like an obsession to win it.

When things become an Obsession, that is when the mind takes over in a negative way? tennis is 80% mental these days, your clear mental ability will win on most days.

Zheng was the MENTALLY toughest player in Paris bar none. Zheng became a ball player , put foot to ball and kept trying to make the game uncomfortable for her opponent. Give Vevi credit , Donna has played a great tennis year and should be a top ten player if she stays at this pace. Get some rest MM and come back with some Rafa practicing on hard courts update..

BTW did anyone catch the track and field Mixed 4 X 100 relay.. wow what a dream event for the men and women. I didn't see it at the Tokyo games I only seen it happen maybe when I was a kid on the track relay teams practicing with the girls. My Lord it was some girls just as fast as us boys which wasn't easy to accept.. jajajaja
