Well, there it is. For 3 sets, it was awfully long. Congratulations to Novak, and :rose:for his fans.

I hope everyone is doing well.
Congrats to Novak, his team, and his fans. Another one for the record books. I think he did just enough to grab this one. All match I had the feeling that Medvedev was stuck at gear 4 in a 5 speed car. He never could get to that next level, the Alcaraz match level. He definitely tried though.
Remembering Kobe was a nice touch.
Is it just me or anyone else feels like the season is pretty much over after the US Open even though there is so much tennis to be played till AO ? :)

There's definitely a quality of that, even though we still have two Masters left - and I believe Shanghai is back this year for the first time since 2019?

Plus we have the World Tour Finals, which is the closest thing we have to a "fifth Slam." It is always exciting, because just about every match is meaningful and it is only the best players. Occasionally the #1 ranking is decided there.

Plus, it is sort of a sprint to the end and the #1 ranking. Right now Novak is 675 points ahead in the race rankings, so it isn't a sure thing.

One of the things about Novak Djokovic is despite any challenge ahead, he comes through.

Banned from Australia and US and cast a villain for not agreeing to be forced to pinch himself? He comes back and wins AO and USO

New challengers like Carlos? Comes back and beats him in cincinatti. His nemesis who some think has his number? Danil? Dusted in straight sets

Like i have said before, he’s like the mutant Sebastian Shaw, the more bullets and bombs he faces, the stronger he gets.

24 and counting. If you are a Novak hater, you will experience mental anguish, he will always beat you in the end.

Back to world #1 by a lot, 3 slams in the bag this year. At 36, he’s not even in his physical prime anymore but he’s just a force of nature. A man with unparalleled determination.

Djokovic is the most inspirational of all the greats. He doesn’t try to be perfect. Who is perfect? Any of you? so why want perfectly behaved fakers? This is not natural. Novak stays true to his beliefs and can never be kept down.

As far as match is concerned. Danil is a nightmare, he is the elite human backboard and has a great serve. To beat him, i knew novak was going to have to be patient and have the right balance of offense and defense. He made way too many UFEs in 2021. This time around he was patient, attacked but kept his UFEs to respectable levels compared to his winners. He served decent, could’ve been better but could’ve been worse. He also employed variety by slicing a lot, coming to net. It’s all nevessary vs Danil. Alcaraz came to net a lot against danil but lacked patience from the backcourt, this was his downfall.

AO will be interesting

Good to see you, Murat! Well-put...he never did get out of 4th gear. Obviously, the guy on the other side of the net had something to say about it, but Meddie has to stop giving so much time. He stands way back, waits for it to drop, and he has such a big wind-up. He almost never takes the ball early, or on the rise. Hoping to tire Djokovic wasn't a winning strategy.

How many "Fifth Slams" do we have now? Yes, there's still much to play for. YE#1 could be interesting. And how the trending youngsters do late this year. Didn't Rune have a good autumn last year?

Nice to see you show up for the victory lap, Mike, rehashing old wounds.

I wrote "the closest thing we have to a fifth Slam," which it is. It isn't a Slam, but it is the next highest point tournament and in some ways it is harder to win because all five matches are against top 10 opponents. It is a doozy.

It’s being reported that Pickleball doubled its fans/players in the last few hours. Djokovic is killing our sport. RIP tennis. :rip:

I think no matter what the rankings say, the number one player this year is Djokovic. Carlos might grab it but it won’t be the same, unless he wants to chase Pete’s so far unassailable record. It’s one thing that was impressive every season when Pete finished number 1 was that he was also best in the slams that season too, so there was no discussion.

Connors was YE number one five years in a row but for at least of of those years he was only there because of a ranking anomaly..
