See I told you Fronty Sinner and his return of serve. He played unreal. Delighted for him too. His return of serve is something else.
Isner wasn't fully fit but Sinner really returned well there too but I was surprised tbh that Alcaraz not only lost but fell relatively easily. Had vague feelings he might have ended up winning it in 5 but Sinner was just too good. He hit some monstrous fast forehands.See I told you Fronty Sinner and his return of serve.
Fhand wing has always been his stronger side, he did let some monster fhands rip in the matchIsner wasn't fully fit but Sinner really returned well there too but I was surprised tbh that Alcaraz not only lost but fell relatively easily. Absolutely shocking yup.Of course Tim wont get any points for his good showing at Wimbledon he will have to go back to play challengers again to gain points? not fair at all
I think he may get a few more wild cardsOf course Tim wont get any points for his good showing at Wimbledon he will have to go back to play challengers again to gain points? not fair at all
First of many probably until his ranking improves!Just heard that Tim will get a main draw wild card into Newport tournament!
Yep, though he can go back to challengers and get points, though after his good performance at Wimbledon I agree with you he will probably receive more wild cards at different tournaments and the HC season starts after Wimbledon.First of many probably until his ranking improves!
He's gone from zero to sixty in a matter of weeks, in terms of tennis and name recognition...hey, he even has a nickname, (or two. "Flying Dutchman" might be yours, anyway, it's a good one.) He hit the big time today and acquitted himself reasonably well. And he has a good story. I think he's developing a small fan-base. Wildcards will surely be coming his way. Let's see what he can make of it. As @Front242 said, will also be interesting how he does on the HCs.Yep, though he can go back to challengers and get points, though after his good performance at Wimbledon I agree with you he will probably receive more wild cards at different tournaments and the HC season starts after Wimbledon.
THanks Moxie, I have been up since 10.30pm on Sunday night and it is nearly Midday here on Monday, I will be off to bed shortlyMaybe Margaret has gone to bed, so stepping in on the update:
QFs set on the top half:
Djokovic v. Sinner
Goffin v. Norrie
Playing off for QFs tomorrow:
Garin v. De Minaur
Nakashima v. Kyrgios
Kubler v. Fritz
Nadal v. Van de Zandeschulp
----------------
I'd pick De Minaur over Garin, but could be tight.
Kyrgios will d. Nakashima.
Fritz over Kubler
Nadal over VdZ
IMO
Given that we are possibly headed for a #1 seed v. #2 seed final, clearly Novak has the easier path. I don't mean to downplay the possibility of upset by our boy Sinner, who is young and evolving, and Cam Norrie would have the crowd, if he gets through, but lets be real. Rafa will likely play Fritz and Kyrgios to get to the final. Much harder road, even if he makes it.THanks Moxie, I have been up since 10.30pm on Sunday night and it is nearly Midday here on Monday, I will be off to bed shortly
This to the point that ATP and WTA took away the points from Wimbledon, in reaction to Wimbledon excluding players from Russia and Belarus. Which I think you were also against. Anyway, I was. It was a game of chicken, and no one blinked. Wimbledon made their, IMO, very pointless choice to exclude some players in reaction to the war in Ukraine. Has it had any effect on the war or will it? I think no. In support of its players, ATP/WTA took away the points, hoping to force Wimbledon into changing its position. Wimbledon didn't, so the players' councils didn't change theirs, either. Nothing good came of all that posturing, nor ever will, if you ask me. Wimbledon/UK should have stayed out of it in the first place, in terms of involving the tennis. There is no useful point that I can see.Absolutely shocking yup.
I'm looking for a replay of the popcorn match from yesterday. I can't find it on YouTubeMaybe Margaret has gone to bed, so stepping in on the update:

Is that necessarily better or worse as long as Nadal gets there?Given that we are possibly headed for a #1 seed v. #2 seed final, clearly Novak has the easier path.
