Miss Margaret were you listening to Moxie's beloved Rafa's Debbie downer Pat McEnroe who told the entire world that the match was OVER in the 3rd set.
Does any one listen to Pat McEnroe these days lol! that is also like listening to Medicated Mats Wilander who said Rafa should have retired last year lol! then changed his tune after the match and said Rafa was Amazing....like the drugs took effect in the long run.:)

Well to be fair, it DID looked like the match was almost over for Nadal, but he held serve and the rest was history. So, PMac saying that at that moment was not too far fetched, in my opinion.

Now, Mats saying Nadal should have retired last year, that’s a hyperbole or over the top!

If you can't appreciate that Rafa was down for the count, and came all the way back up to his full height and told Daniil who was boss, then you're not really giving Nadal his due. It's not a question of fans keeping faith, or P-Mac telling people it was all but over. There was one man, gutting it out, point by point, game by game, 3rd set after 4th set after 5th set to turn that match around. It was Rafa who made that great comeback for the amazing win. The rest of us were just left to watch, and then pick our jaws up off the floor. No discredit to a commentator for stating the nearly obvious. No credit or discredit to fans for faith or loss of. Rafa did it all by himself.

Well we can say now Rafa should have won the 2nd set,I did say in the live chat I could not see him coming back from 2 sets to love, then when he won the 3rd set,I felt he was in the match with a chance, and we all witnessed what he did,yes we had to suffer at times in the remaining sets, but in the end it was well worth it....I mean some of those drop shots in the 5 set were off the charts, among other shots.I never once said I wasnt giving Rafa his due btw.,he was Amazing.
I still question any commentator declaring a 5 set GS final over in the 3rd set okay.to me even if it was obvious to him I dont think that was a very professional statement at the time....now he has Egg all over his Face....

Me personally I didn’t really think Nadal will win the match UNTIL he broke Medvedev’s serve at 2-all in the 5th set. That’s when I started to believe he can do it, but like I said, those games at 3-2, 4-3, and 5-4 were agonizing. When Rafa was broken serving at 5-4 30-love, I was like, “Damn! I can’t believe it will happen again!”

I could see Medvedev was losing focus in the 4th and 5th set.Rafa just kept his eyes on the 'prize' which he did.,okay he might of got broken but he bounced right back
Thats a mark of a Champion Player!

Thankfully I had Darren Cahill not McEnroe to listen to.Darren Cahill beats McEnroe hands down as a commentator to me,also his insights of all players are exceptional.,also a great tactician

I was quoting AP when I said he wasn't giving Rafa his due. (Which is still a bit of hyperbole, but I have to poke.) Absolutely Rafa should have won the 2nd set, which is why everything looked so bleak after. Medvedev played an untouchable first set. All credit. He came rather back down to earth, and Rafa had more than a couple of chances to take the 2nd, and "should" have. That's why we were all so deflated. I was talking up hope, more than actually feeling it.

Exactly. Medvedev, to his credit, as in the USO final 2019 didn't just go away in the 5th. When Meddie broke back in the 5th, I started to think we were going TB. That's why I say the end almost felt sudden. The break back and the strong finish.

Well AP owes me big time then....after all I had to eat 4 humble pies for nothing.

Well the crux of the AO final is I will never question Rafa and his ability to come back after being down 2 sets to love again.( well maybe a bit if it ever happens again,I am getting too old for this caper)

I am actually really curious to see on how this win and major (pun intended) accomplishment will serve (pun intended) Nadal on his latter stages of his career, no?

Like I said before the match, it feels like he will be mentally “colm” moving forward now that he exercised his AO “curse” and he has the most men’s GS titles for the time being. He is not chasing Federer anymore and I don’t think Djokovic surpassing him (Nadal) will hinder his own happiness because Nadal did conquer his AO “demons”

I agree with your comments,I dont think it matters to Rafa if Novak passes him, main thing for Rafa is to be healthy, enjoy his tennis and be competitive in the matches, that's the main points I feel for Rafa moving forward.Thank God the curse of the AO for Rafa and his fans is over.

The curse of AO is finally over, however, Rafa will still want to share his “suffering” on the court to his fans! Like he said, “We need to suffer, no?”

Rafa has no choice but to accept it since inevitably Novak will pass him up! Is there even a doubt? Some idiots on another site have said Novak may never win another major! Those people need serious fk'n help! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :dance2::face-with-tears-of-joy::clap:

Dont you think we have suffered enough in the past and also present like at the AO Rafa? some of your fans are older now and we would like easier matches just saying:)

Saying and believing were two different things, but we lived through one great comeback together.:yahoo:
Moxie, I think all things considered, it was the greatest comeback EVER. Just think about the drop shot. Danii’s gangly arms probably gives him a wingspan of an NBA 7 footer. It took the balls of a mental giant to try and execute that shot at that point in the match. I would like to see what Rafa’s thoughts are. Rafa, “Is this your greatest come from behind victory EVER, No?”

Matt jumps on and off the Nadal bandwagon more than anyone. I think this victory will finally even convince Uncle Cliffy whom I grew up listening too as a young child that he needs to remember how great Nadal is and he for lack of a better word “bested“ his beloved da Raaoog (Federer) in his prime and for the third time figured out the Djorker dilemmas during his 15 years of encounters.
