I had to laugh at this today from Craig Tiley who reckons that the Australian Open 2022 is the most successful ever,he is soo full of Spin.
I am personally going to send Tiley and the Melbourne Health Minister to a "Boost Comprehension Skill' course after their failure to read and comprehend 2 letters from the Federal Health Minister,Greg Hunt in last November regarding COVID vaccinations and exemptions at the Australian Open in 2022.

Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic Congratulate Rafael Nadal on Epic Australian Open Victory

Rafael Nadal's improbable comeback in Sunday's Australian Open final gave him his 21st Grand Slam title—the most in men's singles history—and sent the sports world buzzing in its aftermath. Among those to send their well-wishes to the 35-year-old? Longtime rivals Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.
The pair entered Sunday even with Nadal at 20 major singles wins apiece but now look up at Nadal on the all-time leaderboard. Nadal dropped the first two sets against Daniil Medvedev before roaring back to life, winning the third and fourth sets each with a score of 6–4. He won the decisive fifth set in 12 games, letting out a jubilant cheer after completing the comeback.

Federer offered his congratulations on his Instagram story, lauding Nadal for his “incredible work ethic, dedication and fighting spirit.”
“What a match! To my friend and great rival Rafael Nadal, heartfelt congratulations on becoming the first man to win 21 Grand Slam singles titles,” Federer wrote. “A few months ago we were joking about both being on crutches. Amazing. Never underestimate a great champion...I am proud to share this era with you and honored to play a role in pushing you to achieve more, as you have done for me for the past 18 years. I am sure you have more achievements ahead but for now enjoy this one!”

Djokovic, who was not permitted to play in the tournament following the saga surrounding his vaccination status, congratulated Nadal and women's singles champion Ashleigh Barty in an Instagram post after Nadal's victory.

“Congratulations to Ashleigh Barty for an amazing performance in front of her home crowd and to Danielle Collins for an incredible tournament,” Djokovic wrote. “Congratulations to Rafael Nadal for 21st Grand Slam. Amazing achievement. Always impressive fighting spirit that prevailed another time.”

Full match now available. Question for Nadal diehards. Which of the two Australian Open victories was your favorite final ? 2009 vs Roger Federer or 2022 vs Danill Medvedev - and why ?

I cannot split them...I mean Rafa played a 5 set epic match against Verdasco in the semi final then backed up and played another 5 set match against Roger to win, quite frankly to this day I do not know how he did it.,physically.Rafa became the first Spainard to win the title.
Yesterday's match had all the theatrical drama, coming back from 2 sets to love down,Rafa showed again why he is such a determind and mentally astute athlete who leaves it all on the court.,I give a slight edge to this match because Rafa made history winning his 21st GS title and achieving a double career slam.

Thanks Margaret. Yes i think he's played more 5 setters in the A.O. than at the other three slams, possibly combined. Some Nadal fan can check and let us know.

BTW yesterdays final between Nadal and Medvedev was the 2nd longest match at the AO going 5 hours 24mins

The longest match at the AO still stands 2012 final match between Nadal v Djokovic which went for 5 hours 53 minutes ( I was live at that final which took years off my life).

So where about was your vantage point? near the umpires chair ? Behind one side of the court?

Say Margaret, did you see my Beatles and Elvis videos regarding how their records were released in the U.S.S.R in their lifetime? The Elvis ones in particular, were pressed on used X-Rays without the Soviet Union consent.

I was in the middle just above the umpires chair.,good viewing.you have to be careful that you get on the side that does not have the sun in your face, seeing it is daylight saving, though around 7.30pm that is not a problem, only for day matches.

One thing that was disappointing about this tournament was the behaviour of fans. It's not only Daniil who complained, but he had a legitimate grievance, even though it's not a unique one. I've seen the fans at RG cheer every point Roger won against Rafa, but it didn't affect Rafa. Daniil needs to not let this periphery stuff get in his way. Huge learning curve for him, but it was sad to watch his presser and he was a little sulky, a little self-pitying, but very hurt by crowd being so vocally against him, to the extent that they were trying to distract him. I thought the umpire did as much as he could.

There was a delay at one point, with security on the court. Did somebody run onto the court?

Medvedev should improve a little bit his behavior, then maybe he could get more love of the crowd, he complains too much

I saw that press conference, and it did make me sad for him, the disillusionment he feels. But, he seems to think that crowd appreciation is a one way street, and that he has no hand in how the crowd embraces him, or not. And to blame it in part on his being Russian, I don't get that. He has played the bad guy and then he doesn't understand why he treated like one.

I agree. He swung the USO crowd around in his favour in 2019, but he was charming then, and disarming. This time he was tetchy. He mistimed a mention of Novak, which was a fair enough comment, but the crowd booed. And he complained a lot. Also, attacking the umpire so viciously turned a lot of people off. He apologised, and players can lose the head, but I think that kind of was held against him. He has a kind of Djoker-style wanting in him, that the crowd should love him, and he tries too hard, like Djoker does. Hopefully his coaching team tell him, it doesn't matter if the crowd like you, or not. They might like the other bloke, they might like you. Just don't let them distract you so easy...

EDIT: As for the mention of Russia, people play the race and gender card all the time nowadays. I mute that button. But the Serbs think everyone is out to get them through Novak, and the Russkies want to be accepted but at the same time, they have a chip on their shoulder. Some of them, not all of them, but I saw nothing in the crowd's reaction that was based on him being Russian. Generally these sort of claims are bogus, appealing to a false compassion, because they know their behaviour would receive no sympathy...

I don’t know that any player arguing with officials would ever see themselves as the bad guy if they felt justified in the argument which I’m not sure an argument would have happened if they didn’t feel justified in saying what they said. The unfortunate thing is in how you argue it. That certainly is lost on many players. I’m sure Serena, Denis, and anyone else in the history of arguing with officials don’t feel like they are villains for arguing their points nor do they expect the crowd to treat them as such for advocating for themselves. However when you are in the heat of playing at a slam, I doubt you care or are aware of how you are perceived in that moment as you are fighting for hardware. That’s something that players don’t think about and probably should when making cases with officials, but again easier said than done when a lot is on the line at a tournament.

To be honest, I don’t agree with how many players argue, but I do think it is important for officials to be aware if players are unhappy with what they perceive as lack of awareness on officials parts. Medvedev for whatever reason had been moody for most of the tournament. He certainly could have argued more tactfully, but I do think not saying something now would result in far worse behavior at another point. I think it makes officials and tournament directors aware that players are watching their actions and officiating.

Miss Margaret or Tented, Question: Rafa's win yesterday was both his 90 ATP and 500 hardcourt victory. Rafa won AO 2009, have there ever been a man or woman have such a long layoff between winning two titles at a GS?

I think Serena's RG titles were about 11 years apart (2002, 2013), but still not as long as Nads stint.

Kskate reply was right with Serena having a long layoff between winning GS titles
