2022 Australian Open Men’s Final: Rafael Nadal vs. Daniil Medvedev

What can you say—the Spanish Bull is relentless and all class. Very happy for him. This was a great win for tennis and for champions! Muy bien hecho Rafael—felicidades.

Nice to see some old tennis friends and very happy, most particularly for Moxie and brother Kieran! Olé

I still can't believe it, wow.

10 years ago, in 2012, he was up a break in the 5th set at 4-2, 30-15 and he lost the match.

5 years ago, in 2017, he was up a break in the 5th set at 3-2 at 30-all and he lost the match. He was trailing by 4 slams to Federer (14 > 18) after this match.

Then, today, in 2022, he was down two sets to love and was serving 0-40 at 2-3 in the 3rd set. Next, he was serving for the championship at 5-4 30-0 in the 5th set and he got broken. Finally, he broke back and serve for the championship at love...unbelievable, man!

Now, he now has the Men's Grand Slam titles record at 21 Slams over against rivals, Federer and Djokovic.

By the way, he is 35.5 years old! Unbelievable, man! I still can't believe it!

I don't mean to diss Medvedev, but those close losses were to Djokovic and Federer. This win was over Medvedev. When it got to 5, even though Nadal is now old, we know the 5th is very mental, so I thought "advantage Nadal."

That's not happening. If Rafa had one more AO in him, surely he's got one for RG. And Djokovic, whenever they let him play again, will surely have an opinion on that.

Sounded like he was in business to get people to turn to off the tv. All I heard was how Daniil could blah blah blah against Rafa..Not much for Rafa to do but hope Medvedev misses .. supposed if viewers turn off the tv at 2-6 6-7 2-3 love 0-40 on Rafa's service. They would have missed one of the Greatest comeback in sports. Especially the game of tennis IMO..I Don't fancy Pat McEnroe, Mary Carillo, the posters Cali and especially BS.. Never liked them, never have NEVER will.

I think some of that probably had to do with how rude the Aussie crowd was being toward Medvedev. Nadal was fighting his own battle to win. I don’t think Nadal wanted to appear to be adding fuel to the Aussie dumpster fire that was the crowd. He certainly didn’t need to add fuel to Medvedev having subdued him. Medvedev strikes me as some who can run with anger and use it as fuel in the right context.

I dont like crowds booing full stop,though I think one of the main reasons that the crowd didnt have a lot of love for Medvedev is the way he has acted at times during the tournament,especially in his s/final match against The Young Greek.
Rafa was always going to be the crowd favorite.

Daniil became the Hunted and Rafa became Spiderman's Kraven the Hunter. Being the prey was too much for Daniil during the moment. Nuff said!

You really need to stop beating that dead horse, ; ) no, not all the Rafa fans had given up and others were simply analyzing some of his substandard play. Compared to some other subsets of fans for other players, who even curse out their idols I thought the Rafa fans were a pretty admirable bunch.

The announcers’ job is to stimulate and keep the viewers tuned in, but at the same time it’s a tough row to hoe since their tennis experience also tells them 35 year old , coming back from an injury recovery/surgery hiatus Rafa hadn’t done a 2 love set down comeback in 15 years. The more you look at this comeback the more remarkable it looks, again it was 2 sets to love in a tournament where Nadal confessed being fatigued during several long matches. Medvedev is arguably the best HC player in the last year and let’s face it, Rafa was not looking all that sharp in several aspects of his game. That serve, oy!
