I'm perfectly happy to watch the odd good match, and have them tell me who makes the SF/F, but, tbh, when I look at the standings, I can get no traction on how to get excited, because their structure is inscrutable to me. I'm not really in favor of the ATP Cup, and I hate their participation in the destruction of Davis Cup. But, if they wanted to win me over, they should figure out a way to make it comprehensible. IMO.
I much prefer the Hopman Cup

I think its good because it gives him time to tweak some of the rust out of his game. Rafa should be able to step up his game to crack a few more DTL FH and CC BHs.
I would rather he had to play his QF match, seeing now he withdrew from doubles.

Kei Nishikori has withdrawn from AO, still struggling with hip issue he had at the end of last year.

Australian Open Update:
OUT: Nishikori
IN: Kohlschreiber
Next: Majchrzak
That's not a good injury to try to manage for the glass Samurai.. I hope he recovers soon. He needs to go to the clay to recover plus is easier on his older body joints.

To me, I'd have a proper Davis Cup, and a Hopman Cup, and ditch this ATP cup. I'm very sorry they got rid of Hopman Cup. Is that totally dead, or just lost for now to the pandemic?

I did hear rumors from the ATP last year they were going to try to hold it in Europe? it won't be the same quite frankly. The players loved coming to Perth, they had a great New Year's Eve Ball, where the players got dressed up.It was a great event for both men and women
before coming to other tournaments in Australia.

I hate to say this, but I almost forget about Nishikori. It's sort of like del Potro, who, if he weren't so high-profile, we could nearly forget. As much as I like both, they are running out of window for comebacks. Wishing them both the best in 2022.

I think we have been accustomed to his many injuries over the years, his body I feel is not meant for the game of tennis

Speaking of jealousy, now we arrive at the origin. Hmmm? I hate to say it, but you, sir, are no Matteo Berrettini.
Well I'm older now but , all I can say is I had my day as a pretty boy with a great serve and volley game plus an excellent slice bh. I bet signore Matteo wished he did. jajaja

His slice is creditable, but Babycakes could definitely use some variety on the north-south part of his game.

Nah.. take a look at Dominic's, Rafa or Novak's slice (Roger's is perfect).. their slice transverse the entire court and can be used to neutralize the pace of their opponents to regain control of the point. Signore Matteo's is no where near where it should be for a top ten player of his caliber. IMO

I'm not saying his slice is great, only that he has one. What he does NOT have is a variety game of any kind, and I wouldn't even begin to say net. He's gotten to the near-top of the sport. But he's not going to beat the best guys with his power, however considerable. And certainly not at the baseline. He's got work to do, but he has potential. And not just because he's pretty. ;)

I heard on the Tennis Channel last night that he tested positive upon arrival, but has since had two negative tests, and is feeling no symptoms. It sounds like a false positive, but we’ll see.

I would not be surprised if it is a 'false positive'....though I guess he is still taking precautions.,also not being able to practice as well.,by withdrawing from the tournament
