Tsitsipas would have to win all five matches--and the title--and Rafa not win a single match. Very, very unlikely to happen.

Everyone is glad Holger isn't in, though I'm hoping someone drops out as he deserves a chance.

I also thought The Young Greek also had to win Paris to also get a chance at No 1? am I wrong?

I'm just going by points: Alcaraz at 6820, Nadal at 5820, Tsitsipas at 5350. 5350 + 1500 = 6850, 30 points ahead of Alcaraz. So there's a chance!

This year was the official End of the Big 3. NEXT year might be the end of the big 2 ( Rafa and Novak ) although I think Rafa will be a slight favorite if healthy at RG and Novak if he gets the jab at AO. IMO

It isn't the jab at this point - you can enter Australia without being vaccinated, as of July this year. It is whether they waive his ban.

But otherwise, I agree. Rafa will make one final big push in the first half, centered on clay, and Novak will try to reclaim his crown as top dog. I see 2023 being Rafa's last year, and Novak holding out for another year or two after, depending upon how he's playing.

Novak probably should have won but for a couple "brain locks" at inopportune times late! Players like Stefanos & Scasha could be depended on choking when the finish line was near! These newbies don't have nerves yet and are going out there swinging for the fences from 1st ball in the air! It's going to be tough on both, Nadovic as it'll get harder to swipe up all the major events as they once did not that very long ago! It's a new world and we've all been looking forward to it! Now that it's near it hurts to see the faves starting to lose it! Ya can't win them all at 35 years old! I think Novak's season was salvaged by a Major and Masters with an opportunity to win one more YEC! It wasn't a LOST SEASON! With Carlos out, he had a better chance, but if Rune sneaks in, it would be quite a rematch! :fearful-face::face-with-hand-over-mouth::face-with-tears-of-joy:

No so fast on the possibility of NEXT year being Rafa's last. Moya has mentioned that Rafa is going to continue to play during fatherhood. I think Rafa wants to have his son see him playing maybe not live but you know what I mean..I think Rafa will give it 2 more years which gives him a legitimate chance at #25. However this abdominal strain muscle is becoming annoying and hopefully it's not chronic. Defense of AO and retaining RG is possible not plausible if he gets healthy and maintenance of a healthy schedule.

I am sure we should hear soon whether AO is going to overturn the ban on Djokovic. I think that would only leave the question being the US Open for Djokovic. I see two years being realistic factors for both Nadal and Djokovic. Things are slowly starting to creep up for both of them as far as age more so in Nadal than Djokovic, but one major injury can easily derail and put a nail in the retirement coffin for either of them.

Alcaraz is out of the ATP Finals with abdominal injury, internal oblique muscle tear,, ( people whined about him retiring for) also Davis Cup Finals, estimated recovery time 6 weeks.
Taylor Fritz is into the final spot.
Rune would make it as 1st alternative, if he could beat Djokovic tomorrow.Hurkacz at present is the 1st alternative.
Question, is exactly the same injury that Rafa suffed in July at Wimbledon?

No, Carlos suffered a internal left sided tear on his obliques, different to Rafa's ab tear, Rafa did not have tears internally in either sides of his obliques , as far as I am aware.

Rafa does have a bit of a history of AB issues in his career, also a lot of miles have been travelled on those legs :) at present he has not given any clue when he will be hanging up his racquet for good, as long has he can be competitive on the tour and watch his scheduling he will play I feel ( that also includes no more body issues that could keep him off the tour for awhile, like what happened in Wimbledon this year).

Jannik Sinner posted on twitter,
He will not be able to participate in the DCF, he suffered a finger injury from Paris, not recovered
Jannik just another body part that was injured in 2022, please just rest your ankle, finger, foot etc, then go into a good pre- season training with Cahill.I wonder if Cahill uses Gil Reyes gym in Vegas anymore, he used to send his players there.Gil used to be a strength coach for Agassi.

Italy still have a decent team, Berrettini ( if fit), Musetti, Fognini and Bolleli...possibly add Sonego. Italy face USA in the QFs

It’s a bit amusing to be predicting yet again the demise of the Big 2 when they will have won 3 out of the 4 Slams of the year and will probably both end the year in the top 10, 1 of them (Rafa) likely ending the year #1 or #2 and the other would be top 4 if Novak’s W points were not taken away.
