...but that really was a pathetic speech by the tennis australia CEO, don't know her name. She was rightly booed twice because she brought politics into the speech, how dare she ! Go back to america you dumb b..ch. How does some foreigner get to be CEO of australian tennis federation, anyhow?
I recorded the rest of the match because I was on night duty at the hospital,I just sat their and cringed at her speech
Though she actually made a good speech at the ladies final and did not bring politics into it at all.

I don't want to seem like a hater, but Djokovic is not a mental giant. He went 2 years on a mental walkabout. He melts down regularly. He offered Medvedev gifts in this final, and the Russian was too weak to take them. After winning the first set, via crap play from Daniil, Novak got crabby for no reason at all and dropped serve. There was no reason for that, other than nerves. That's not mental fortitude. He was rather lucky that Daniil was so bent on self-destruction in this match. The first set and a half was about who wanted it less. Djokovic is not a mental giant. He's a great talent, and a temperamental one. Even he says that he's going to smash racquets and be who he is, and don't make him stop. This is not self-control. He's talented, but he's not mentally in control of himself all of the time, and sometimes he does beat himself. I think that's fair to say.
I remember the final against Theim in 2020,Novak gave him a lesson in tennis in the first set, then did not like a ruling from the umpire and let Theim back into the match,I know Theim raised his level it took Novak a set or two to get back control of the match and let the umpire's ruling also 'go'.,sometimes he is easily distracted for no reason.

Her speech alone was nearly 8 minutes long and the overall trophies presentation was 17 minutes. Australian Open presentations are ridiculously long. I think that her remarks about the vaccines in particular was the wrong platform to air them on because obviously there are folks out there who are against them for one reason or another and it's not as though these are mandatory either.

Novak couldn't let that net touch go in the 2013 SF v. Nadal, and it cost him. Or a call he didn't like in their Rome final just weeks prior, also cost him. He dropped serve v. Gulbis (fucking GULBIS) in a sf at RG in 2014, and smashed his racquet. Commies tried to remind him that he was up two sets to love. He hangs onto things that drive him crazy longer than he should. He is spectacularly talented, but I don't buy that he's a mental giant. He won in straights today because Medvedev caved. There were windows he could have walked through, and didn't. Djokovic reigns supreme in Oz, but let's not pretend that Medvedev didn't make a hash of it.

You do not use a speech as a platform at a tennis Grand Slam to preach to people about vaccines,I am in the medical profession,it is a person's right whether they have the vaccine period. To bring it up like she did was unprofessional of a person of her standing.

Med was just 'woeful' he needs a coach ASAP to help him in his mid court game and to the net
Novak used great tactics and brought him in time and time again. If Meds is going to have success on other surfaces eg,grass he needs help and practice ASAP.

Agreed. Honestly, I thought Medvedev was an intelligent player with a mix-it-up interesting game. He looked like he had no idea what he was going to do last night. No game plan. I don't want to take away from Djokovic, who was A+ premium for the first few games of the match, but he did offer up some windows of opportunity and Daniil couldn't ever walk through them. And then he just flat fell apart. And that's not just Novak's superior play, no matter how much the faithful want to portray it that way. Medvedev was, as you say, and in a word, "woeful."

The commentator's on the match I was watching actually said 'Medvedev has no game plan' you would think after playing Novak a few times his coach would have sat him down and go through tactics for the match...there wasn't any.My husband said to me he is just 'winging it' lol!

lol

it's like me saying Stan was CRAP in the 17 FO final, was too weak and let Nadal roll him...

You think Danil, who was on a 20 match win streak, having beaten Djokovic in recent months, having destroyed tsitsipas... that he just happed to, coincidently, cave in in the most important match of his life?

I have said this against people Nadal has destroyed at RG when Nadal haters have made excuses, like cali. You remember cali, sounding just like you,. every time Nadal crushed opponents at FO? 'OH, federer played horribly, Thiem was tired and a choked, Stan played his wort match ever, Djokovic played bad...' Don't you do the same cali does and make all sorts of excuses, just because you don't like Djokovic.

I am consistent.... When nadal destroyed Thiem, Stan and even Djokovic in RG finals, it's mostly Nadal's game. These guys are all too good to all of sudden choke or play terribly, just when they step in court with nadal in FO final.

I would bet money on Danil against anyone else in this final, he faced Djokovic.... 9 time AO final, in top form. Danil maybe wins 1 out of 10 matches against an in form Djokovic in AO final. Nadal maybe wins 1 out of 10 too... Federer maybe gets 4/10... Novak has dominated even Fed here... Danil didn't just all of sudden and mysteriously play bad today... after such a hot streak where he beat Novak. Novak's game just disarmed him and forced him to look bad. Nadal a couple of years ago steamrolled Tsitipas in semis and got annihialted by Novalk in finals, couldn't do a darn thing. Novak makes few UFEs, takes time away, attacks, defends like no other on a hardcourt, returns better than anyone and when serving well... lights out, anyone can look bad facing him on this form.

Hey, Mike, nice to see you around. Look, I take your point, and I absolutely don't like to hear people making like the loser just played crap when he was made to look like mush because the other guy was so much better. But you did watch that match, I assume. Djokovic started out top of the drawer. Then he let up and Medvedev caught up. An absolutely garbage game kept him from at least getting the first to a TB. Then Novak, for no reason, drops serve at the head of the 2nd. Medvedev fails to walk through an open door. I'm not saying he would have won, but he had opportunities to make a match of it, and it's not just because Djokovic was so clutch.

Please tell me the opportunities that Stan missed in the 2017 FO final. Not a reasonable comparison. Not even close. I'm saying that Medvedev had no game plan, and didn't execute at all. Not taking away from Djokovic, but he did offer up opportunities. For sure, by the end he was steamrolling, and really hitting his stride, and it IS his Slam. But there is nuance within the conversation, and if you watched the match, Medvedev had opportunities that he failed to capitalize on, and that's on him, not just Djokovic. I think that's a fair statement.

The main problem is that her speech was too long. These people should realize that their speeches are mostly ceremonial and should get out of the way quickly.

It wasn't about the speech was too long, it was the platform she set involving politics and vaccines very unprofessional considering her stature.

Haha, the more Novak wins , the more you sound like Nadalfan2013.
You are the one , saint moxie, who brought up the appreciation-blala when nadal wins and didnt get the respect you feel he should, and now you do all the stuff what you criticized before
I agree with your line, that Novak beats himself sometimes, otherwise he would never lose ;-):

again I always prefer temperament more than neurotic repetion stuff

Djokovic clearly fake Injures to win AO which is close to cheating. Stop Raonic Medvedev, Zverev from playing their best . Djokovic should be banned from tennis for always breaking the rules. time clock every match, fake Injures tanking in Vienna hitting old lady's with tennis balls ECT.

Wow. You write like Cali... but from a totally different viewpoint and not as reasoned. If you think these guys are too soft to take advantage of another player’s injuries, then they shouldn’t be playing top tier tennis.

Not sure if anyone posted this already but Medvedev's speech was great. Very nice guy with some very gracious and decent words about Djokovic. Now, if only his tennis yesterday was as good as his speech!

The tennis australia chief name is Ms Jayne Hrdlicka. Just found out.

But even without the references to the vaccines, praising the Victorian Government and her waiting on the crowds to settle, etc her Eight Minute Speech was too long. As a mattter of interest how long was her speech in the ladies final? I did not see it.

Perhaps this american tennis australia import would be better suited if she runs for politics (as in her country, not here) or for the united nations.
