Federer withdrew from Dubai because behind the smile as he left the court he was actually completely crushed to lose another match after having match point.

Since 2017 a quarter of his losses were after he held match point, don’t think it happens with others.

I believe he does have a house in Dubai.Does training there for the AO.Tony Godsick did say after Dubai he would do a training block for the clay season.
So it begs the question, why not just play in your backyard? My speculation is Methuselah felt a slight creak in his joints and will rest on his crutches just to be on the safe side.

See, we can see the humor in Fed's situation! Another board was about raising He!!; as if I was gleeful Roger was struggling! It's not glee, but inevitability and some can't stand it! It's some kind of insult if you point out how many records once held by Roger now belong to Nadovic! OTTH what does he hold that's significant other than 20 majors? Wow; and the records are falling earlier too! Those are facts; not some kind of checklist to have a chuckle at the old guy's expense! :D

Hard to tell from the highlights and from those he looked pretty sharp and Basilashvili was absolutely crushing the ball. From comments and those who watched it all they said he looked a bit sluggish from set 2 onwards so probably needs to work more on his fitness. His first match back yesterday was 2 hours 25 minutes and completely different opponent than Evans and no day of rest today. Not sure how much practice he's had if any against ball bashers but when Basilashvili is playing well he's pretty damn good. Got to number 16 and has been shocking for a while and seems today was the best he's played in months. Credit to him. Hit some crackers but they both did going by the very short highlights. Getting to match point and losing is obviously a bit of a downer for Roger but he doesn't seem too disappointed at all so neither should his fans. I just hoped to see him more this week. Dubai will be a faster court and will suit him more.

Hey Front and all,

I saw the match several times while working. The first set. Vintage Fed serving with a lot of movement and playing extremely agressively. Basv had zero answers for Roger. The 2nd set Basv begin playing a lot to Roger's BH especially with the serve and when Roger chip the ball short , Basv was the agressor ( misspelled). I think Roger suffered from lack of match play. The 3 set was pretty even and really had some fantástic tennis from both players. I think the difference was Roger's BH especially late in the match. He had a bit more ufes and Basv served like a Beast. Overall, still great effort from the Maestro afterwards playing live competitive tennis for on the 2nd time in 402 days away from the game. Probably the smallest crowd in attendance due to covid-19 restrictions for Roger since probably 1998-99 before he became Fed.

No, he withdrew 'cos he has a sore shoulder. Question: are you fucking stupid or what ? Notice how the Federer fans didn't slag Nadal for his withdrawals and he hasn't been off tour for 14 months. Kindly stfu with your bs. As others pointed out, he even has a home in Dubai so clearly he'd play if he could but isn't taking any chances with his health and fitness at his age.

See my post where in reply to Nadal being out of Rotterdam, for example. No idiotic post like yours.

No, they're not facts. He only has 20 majors.

Yeah, doubt he's had much match play against guys hitting that hard which probably contributed to aggravating his shoulder but the shoulder isn't why he lost. Overall, still thought he played pretty well but just thought his shot selection wasn't the best at times and that'll improve with match play.

I don’t think Methuselah will have problems with his shotmaking, it comes down to movement. Does an athlete lose a half step, a quarter step, etc. That will tell the story.

Whoa. He trying to one up Fed there with the number of kids ? :D Plenty of potential future tennis players in both the Federer and Murray households now.

Good win for Bautista Agut over Rublev although I'd say the 2 straight walkovers (first time this happened before apparently) left Rublev out of rhythm and ended up hindering his chances at Doha rather than helping. Free cash at least for not even playing 2 matches!

Medvedev schooled Sinner 6-2, 6-4.

Med needed it more if he was to hold onto #2 ranking! Sinner's been shooting up and probably needs the rest! Seems like those "also rans" out there who win before a major are unceremoniously kicked out early! I still can't believe they had him playing literally "the next day!" Would have they have done that to one of their own? The USO still reigns supreme as "the worst" when it comes to seedings and scheduling! :angry-face:

I just never wanted to go even when I wasn't paying! A family member got corp box seats every year, but I just never traveled East to attend even during early rounds! It just seemed like such a ripoff to begin with; then the horror of those old days with the airplanes! I'll never forget a couple occasions when these idiots had to re-do the draw over controversies!
