I really did not think fed will win this match. But he deserved to win this match. The other one against Milkman, Fed almost lucked out.

Well Fed steals another. Saves 7 match points. It's not 6 straight points in a 5th set tiebreak. And I think Millman played better. But perhaps still more impressive from Fed.

Sandgren will get a nice bump in the ranking again. Like 2018 after the AO. And after winning Auckland last year. We'll see if he can build upon it this time.

Fed admitting it was the groin. Which is what I thought it was. The commentators mentioned the back. But I mean, going off court. That's often the groin. And him struggling to move to his backhand is the groin. So all that makes sense.

Fed admitting he doesn't deserve this one. Courier doesn't agree. I do. But. I mean. Technically he deserved it more than Sandgren. That's all that matters.

All that experience just whirling around in his brain just allowed him to keep going. He mentioned he believes in miracles. Like maybe there would be rain. I love that. There could be rain. It happens. So that make sense why he kept going.

And he acknowledges that sometimes you escape and then you feel like it's all gravy because you should already be skiing back in Switzerland. And that's so true. That will have to be the key to him doing well against Djokovic or even Raonic if Raonic can break the trend against Novak (which I definitely don't see happening). He'll have to feel like he can relax and just swing freely and have no pressure because he shouldn't be here anyways.

But. I'm not convinced he'll be able to recover from a groin strain as well as he thinks he might be able to. So hopefully he suits up for the match but I don't think he'll be able to play his best tennis and the semis will likely be the end for Roger this year. Still adds 540 points though. Won't change his ranking. But might keep Thiem at bay if Thiem is able to get further than Rafa.

Yoooo. That one still bothers me. As a Roddick fan. I mean. Yeah. I'm also a Fed fan. But Roddick should have won that match. Or at least won that tiebreak. Fed doing Fed things and having his own room in Roddick's head won him that tiebreak. Or at the very least helped cause that backhand volley shank from Roddick. This is definitely not Fed's best escape. Even if it's not that Roddick match, there's others. I can't think of them. But I heard the commentators say this is the 22nd time he's come back from match point to win it. That alone is astonishing. But it also gives you a lot of other options for great escapes. The Roddick one never even got to match point. But the fact that he couldn't break Roddick all day until the last game (can't remember if Roger had to serve it out) was just astonishing.

I missed all the match but the last game! Then I went after highlights, just saw the fourth set's... Federer surely lucky as hell but a lot of merit in hanging in there.

Sandgren seemed to have played absurdly well. I watched all the MP's, the guy went for it, did not get tight. He''ll be a pain in the ass of a lot of people in the IW/Miami.

I am surprised that you feel sorry for Federer. Roger enjoys playing tennis and he is the best exponent of the sport. It’s not like Roger is 70 years old, when traveling around the globe becomes a huge effort.
