Well Thiem can’t afford to wait a set or two to find his range on his serve like he did today. He was fortunate that Zverev was having the same consistency issues today. He has to keep his serve in check better against Djokovic.

Thiem played two 5 setters against modest players, he has some consistency issues. Djokovic is serving well so far, so that should help. Djokovic in 4, but as attemole wrote it should be close.

I haven't seen any result on hard surface, did they play there ? Anyway, Novak should play similar as to Nadal, to prevent Thiem's forehand, and to be careful on diagonal while accepting his forehand. He must be serving to Thiem backhand.

Joker in 4.

This has been a really good tournament. I'm glad Sascha showed up to the party even if it wasn't quite enough to secure a berth in the final. Thiem has a decent shot IMO.

Tennis deserves a male gay champion.I am not calling out anyone by the way.Its about time for a gay male player to win slams.
I am not outing anyone ..women tennis had Mauresmo..which of these boys is going to come out first.

Umm, ever heard of Billie Jean King or Martina Navratilova? Not to mention dozens of others. Oh yeah, Bill Tilden was gay.

Billie Jean King and Navratilova are women. Bill Tilden was a pedophile.

As was Gottfried Von Cramm, but I think he meant an openly out gay Male tennis champhion. I’m sure there are many closeted Male champhions in many sports

Apparently Thiem has won 4 of the last 5 matches? Heard that on a podcast, so it might be wrong. But if it's right? Wow...

Yes, and the only one he lost was a quite close one that he let slip trough his fingers, because he was dictating play for the whole match.

Those wins were all on clay except the WTF. It is not a great matchup for Djokovic. But it is the AO.

Being the AO, and the big moment, all this make Djokovic still the favorite, but I bet he is worried.

Not sure 'worried' is the right word here. A little anxious perhaps? I think he would have preferred to play Nadal.

I don’t know we always say these things about who is worried or nervous, and then it doesn’t happen that way. Thiem has a good shot, but closing out Djokovic should he get there will be a tough ask. Thiem needs to not overthink and play the match like it is the first round. He also needs to channel Stanimal type energy. The court does play a lot slower which does help him.

Djokovic had a relatively easy path to the finals in contrast to Theim’s travails.

It can work either way: Theim had 3 matches where he had to gut out hardfought wins, two of them with top quality opponents. Set points, breakpoints, tiebreakers that could have swung the other way but he hung tough.

Either he’ll be mentally exhausted/fatigued for the final, or Theim emerges more confident and battle hardened ready to battle toe to toe.

I think Thiem is Stan v2.0. Novak has to be the favourite because of his experience. But I don't think that Thiem has any doubts about his ability to beat Novak. Unfortunately for him, this is about more than just beating Novak. If this was a semi-final I might actually favour Thiem. But this is about winning his first slam, so this is more than about his abilities. He needs to take that step and he has a ten ton killa who'll shiv him if he stutters
