Great showing by Berrettini. We need to talk about which are the Next Gen guys who can win Majors coming up. Things have changed.

First set tiebreak decided it. Berretini should have been more aggressive about hitting a big serve at 6-4. Match went completely downhill after that point.

Vintage BS Nadal win.....squeak out a tight set he should have lost and then demonstrate superior physical stamina after that.

Matteo has to be in this conversation because he is strong and has a great array of shots and a fantastic serve. If he stays healthy he is moving up.

I hope @mrzz sees the drop shots Matteo produced so far.

Yes, I saw them. He is indeed much better than I thought. Missed opportunities against Nadal (as he missed in the first set) are not exactly new... he is surely not the first and probably not the last player to go through it. I would not say that the shot selection is not good... he needs (IMO) a safer attacking shot. He lives to close to the lines... (at least in this match).

Sure thing. Bullshit win. You really don't get it, do you?

Why is it a BS win because he pulled out a tough 1st set and isn't physical stamina a huge part of the game?

Actually at 0-4 in the first set tie-break, when the ball ended up short and begging for an attack shot on Berritini's court, I instantly thought: if he misses this one, the match is over. And it was.

But all credit to Nadal from then on. He hit some insane shots (some bad ones as well, but more good ones anyway). 9 times out of 10 he does the opposite of choking. If I had to pick one single trait to be the most important one of a successful tennis player, it would be this one.

You missed a very good match actually. Matteo really put up a good fight especially in the first two sets until it looked like his legs started to get a bit tired(maybe from his prior match). Matteo's first serve is insane as is his groundstrokes. He also has a touch game. He is going to be a special player. He came up against a much more experienced player in important points and once Rafa came back and took the 1st set in the TB and then went up a break in the 2nd it seemed like it was the beginning of the end for Berrittini. I give major props though to Matteo though because he had determination to the end. It was a great match in my opinion. Basically the legend beat the up and comer.

In the short version: Medvedev defied any notion that he was hurt and won the first SF in straights. Dimitrov eventually proved that he's not up to any real challenge. The young Italian showed he was made of sterner stuff. He wasn't at all intimidated by the moment, and got a big lead on Rafa in the TB, but didn't close out. Still, he didn't go away, or at least he took some time to. Then Rafa prevailed in 3.

That's what you missed. Nadal v. Medvedev in the final.

Alright Nads, you are sending my babe home. It's OK. He outperformed all the next gens that are higher ranked besides Med.
He outperformed Daniil in Montreal too, AND will tomorrow in the final.
