I was surprised when just saw the results.
Never thought it would go 5 sets.
Can’t say I’m happy but he did it and took his great chance to win a slam of clay.
I guess the pure will and his physical abilities did it again , like so many times.
Congrats to all honest Nadal Fans.

I agree about that 40-0 game and I brought it up in another post. But I don't think Nadal had any answers for Medvedev when he went big on his serve either. Medvedev hit a number of serves that flew right past Nadal.

Nadal did not win this match with outstanding returns. I'm not sure what the hell you're talking about.
Rafa kept the ball in play and he had some nice deep returns of service.

Sure even if Ralph is one side and Fed and Djoker both are there on other, Ralph will win easily.

He's beaten them both at the WTF before... :bye:
But who cares? I'm more excited about his upcoming 2nd singles Olympics gold next year and of course passing Federer's slam record :good:

In summary, nadal was not close to his best in first set, only reason medvedev didn’t win that set was because medvedev used the wrong tactics of not being offensive. Nadal was tentative with his fh, he couldn’t make a 1st serve...

Later in the match, medvedev starting being more aggresive, coming to net... nadal was playing better but still tentative.

Medvedev is a talented player but his bread and butter is not offense, nadal should’ve won this in straights.. clearly, he let medvedev off the hook.

I saw positive signs from medvedev though, he can play offense, he’s like murray though, it’s not his comfort zone. I think nadal has the type of game to beat medvedev easier than this, rafa was not letting his fh fly, not sure why.. nerves, pressure, tactics.. he could’ve totally finished this in 3 had he been more loose with his fh.
Rafa did not hit his flat first serve and just like vs Roger at Wimbledon, he wasn't dialed into his cc BH.. You're correct..he had too many nerves tonight and played tentative..Good victory vs Medvedev but his levels wasn't good enough to defeat Roger or Novak's game , IMO.

Of course nadal lose would if he was playing both Djokovic + federer what kind of question is that? anyway I'm excited about Nadal getting past Federer next year winning Roland Garros+ us open, Wimbledon plus 2nd gold medal.

Trust me #20.& #21 is all that matters. If he can find a way to finally play like he does in practice, he can finally solve the riddle of AO vs the gatekeeper of Roger's grandslam legacy..What the Hell does Nadal have to loose now. I think now he can forget about the horrendous end of the start of the year

I agree but that's one of the cons of being 33 years old. Your body and nerves to start hit you a lot harder than when you are 23 years old. One thing that showed us this final (and Wimbledon final with Djokovic) is that they are humans at the end of the day. Even if the Big 3 has won a lot, nerves, tightness, and etc will get to them especially at 32 years and older...

All in all, I am just very happy that Nadal won and he is now at 19 Slams so Vamos Rafa!

First of all, I just want to congratulate Rafael Nadal for winning his 4th US Open title AND 19 Grand Slam title! It was not easy that's for sure lol! But in the 5th set, he showed on why he is the ultimate competitor in tennis history! This guy just does not quit and just continue to fight to the very end!

Next, Daniil Medvedev showed a lot of cleverness, determination and guts in that match especially after being down two sets and a break. He competed with Nadal and he almost won the match! I hope he continues to play well because he is a really good player and mentally he is one of the toughest player out there. Let's just hope he actually takes a break from tennis because he needs to rest his body and mind.

One more thing: That speech from Medvedev was one of the most clever, sweet and funny speeches I have ever heard. He is truly a clever man on and off the court!

Next year us open going to be even better if Nadal winning 5th us open getting to Federer record of five us opens its going to be epic for sure might save my money to go there.

Even if he does get to 5 titles at the USO it's nowhere close to comparable to 5 consecutive titles and the surface is a lot slower than when Federer won those 5 consecutive titles when it played more like it should. Enjoy the win but there's no comparison to 5 straight and that's plain as day obvious.

can say 5 in a row all you what but at the end of the day Nadal 5 us opens/ Federer 5 us opens sounds pretty even to me, if it happens plus Federer was not won us open since 08, Nadal won 4 us opens in 2010s. Like a said Nadal the most Roland Garros+ us opens in the 2010s Nadal making he's own era at us open. I was thinking you would hide for the next two weeks

Great final. Kudos to Daniil for bringing up his best when cornered. Let's hope he keeps wanting more and he works on it.

In terms of majors, the 10's are now officially over. And a player born past 1990 sniffed some at last, but still couldn't grasp. Next decade is their time.

Good post, i totaly agree and congratulate too.

He is the biggest competitor, no doubt about that, and plus this unreal physis, overall the toughest to beat.

Yes Daniil has everything that is needed to be very succssesfull, most important is surly the decline of the three GOATS :).

Enjoy it and let us hope we will see the 3 healthy soon and ready for a great 2020 season.

Djokovic has also been awesome this season and is still the best in the world, it's hope for a Djokovic-nadal WTF final to decide number one.

5 random years is not the same as 5 consecutive which is a much more impressive and difficult achievement. I shouldn't really have to explain this. Why would I hide for 2 weeks? What's happening in 2 weeks time?

Of course it's more impressive 5 in a row I just saying Nadal+ Federer look pretty even on paper if Nadal wins next year that's all, plus I was talking more about 2010s there Nadal made a us open dynasty more us opens than both Djokovic+Federer put together. Finally Nadal being the new goat I was thinking it's hiding time for Federer fanboys like you, it's clear Federer scared of Nadal after us open I think all the players are. Also clear Nadal going to win Olympics+ Australian open, next year:yesyes:
