Another thing, I've never seen Nadal as emotional after a GS win. Never in RG, not even in his 2010 F.O over Soderling.

Provided Roger doesn't win the Australian Open, Nadal has a legit shot at tying him at the FO next season.

Congrats to Nadal for the way he rose to the occasion in the 5th set. I can't stand aspects of his playing style and how he wins key sets and points but I respect his attention to detail and his consistency under pressure. You saw it again today in the fifth.

Well, if this does not light a fire under the collective asses of the young dudes, I don't know what will ...

They all have as many Slams as Medvedev does. They're on equal footing.

I'm sorry, no matter how you cut it this is a bad loss. I know I am starting to sound like Darth, but all this moral victory nonsense is bullshit. Medvedev blew the first set by returning terribly and then at the start of the 5th he had breakpoints up 1-0 with Nadal visibly tired and distressed.

This is not good for Medvedev.....in the next 2-3 years he still will have Djokovic and Nadal in his way at every Slam, and Federer especially to deal with at Wimbledon. There is no reason to think he is a favorite to win any of those.

This was a terrible loss with all the chances he had. All he can do is tap himself on the back and say "almost" like dozens of others have.

The shame of it was he had the match in the palm of his hands with the breakpoints early in the 5th. But he did not take them. Then he coughed up the key break in the game after being up 40-0.

Are we supposed to applaud this?

Medvedev choked today.

Congratulations to Nadal and to his fans (I always find strange to congratulate the fans, but still...). It was an entertaining match, it took a long while to pick up quality wise, but in the end it was good fun. Medvedev proved himself to be a contender and whoever faces him in the next major final he gets, will have to play really well to beat him. The few mental lapses he had today, he won't have them next time.

Oddly enough (I don't think anyone will agree with me in this one), for me the most costly one was the awful game he played right after he broke on the first set, starting with a lazy and completely poor executed, ill timed drop shot. Not challenging the set point in the second set also hurt -- but that Cali won't let anyone forget.

As for Nadal, amazing fighter. Far from his best match in terms of execution, but always there in the tactical side. Some patches of very good play, made Medvedev run some 20 miles in this.

No shit sherlock. You're really going out on a limb with that one.

Ah, and that's what we've been waiting for...

The imminent group meltdown of Fed-fans/Nadal detractors. Good to see you and GSM joining the party early.

It IS interesting that Rafa has more US Open titles than Nole.
Like I said earlier. This is what tennis has become. You have a dirt baller becoming a an all time US Open great. There is something wrong somewhere.
