Venus not up to par with Halep so far. Not even close. But of course she'll fight til the death. Venus took a chance on a challenge with a Halep ace and it was out though. So she's still apparently got eagle eyes.
Went down set point. But has a break point now. Overcooked a backhand though. Deuce #2. Halep ace. Less good return and Halep easily puts it into the open court. 6-2 Halep. Serving well.

Venus apparently had 5 break points in the first set. Failed to convert any. She converts her first one of the second set though on a nice return and a Halep backhand sailing well wide. Still needs to serve well enough to hold though.

Venus first serve not big enough right now. Halep all over it. of course she finds an ace as I type this. Deuce.

Holds though. Let's see if she can get a foothold in the match. I'm thinking Halep takes this in 2 however.

Looks like Halep is picking Venus deuce court serves OFF. Swatting them down the line. Venus can barely touch them. But she's having better success in the ad court serves. Managed to win a deuce court second serve and another nice ad court serve to get her first hold since early first set.

Of course it looks like this whole time I should have been watching Muguruza/Bacsinszky. First set tiebreak. Both looking really good.

Halep held to love this time round. Serving SO well. But Venus holds too.

Muguruza never down in the tiebreak. Takes it 7-5. If she pulls out this match she can challenge any woman in her way if she's playing well. Doesn't matter Pliskova or Giorgi or Serena or Halep (up a break now on Venus.) Muguruza has looked really good in the 10 minutes I've spent watching her matches though. lol

Venus with the double fault to ace to double fault swing. Double match point Halep.

And halep picks off another deuce court first serve out wide, right down the line for the winner. Way too good for Venus tonight. Playing like the #1 player she is. We'll see if she can keep that up against Serena though. She's set the date though. She wanted it clearly and she'll get it.

Haven't paid any attention to Anisimova's matches but will tonight vs. Kvitova! Collins Kerber later, expecting a dud for that one like Venus Halep though
