Stefanos vs RBG could be interesting, both players have to be drained mentally and physically.

Don't forget Tiafoe too, Jelenafan! All of them are first time slam quarterfinalists and there is Nadal.

Not sure why Stefanos should be drained physically, it only went 4 sets and Fed didn't pressure him the last two sets at all. He should be alright. RBA should be gassed but...uh I doubt he will be.

Federer still at least has wimbledon he could easy win that, and after he does retirement sounds like a good plan. Also nadal backhand seems superior to federer right now?

I don't know about easily. With Novak around. But yeah. That's still probably his best chance to win one more slam. Part of me definitely agrees that he's headed for retirement this year. The other part just doesn't know with Roger. He just loves tennis. AND he signed a seriously lucrative deal with Uniqlo last year. And I think it was for a couple years. So while I'm sure Roger could make it work after retirement. It does possibly require him to be on court for more than this year. They don't care if he's winning. They know he brings in eyeballs no matter what.

He may not win another slam but he'll still be the guy guys like Tsitsipas have to go through for another couple years. He's too good to just lose in the first round. He'll continue to be a 4th round, qf, sf threat as long as he's breathing. lol. Realistically for another 2 years I think. You'd think he's got reasons to just walk away if he's not threatening for slams. But, one, I think he'll believe he can win again right up until the end. And two he's got Connors title count he'd probably like to at least approach. He may not get there. 8 or 9 titles, even small ones, seems probably impossible over the next two years. But he can get 3 or so. Maybe 5. MAYBE 6. That'd have to be small ones though.

We shall see.

Doubt he's the favourite anywhere anymore, how could he be at 37 and he acknowledges this himself but, yes, a favourite still.

A testament to his consistency over the years that we consider a quarterfinal and 2 straight 4th round appearances as crappy. It's not. By a long shot. Especially for a 37 year old. But his standards have spoiled us. He's made the quarters without breaking a sweat so often that we take for granted that younger players are still on the other side of the net and you still have to play the match.

Might be good for a 37 year old although not even making week 2 is far from good imo. It'll definitely be a good year for non Federer fans 'cos he's done winning slams.

I just checked the live rankings. Roger is down to no. 6, Zverev is up to no. 3, and Tsitsipas is up to a career high no. 13.

I don't blame him.
I'm happy he's even playing at 37(all his contemporaries have mostly retired) but the last year has been very tough.
All parts of his game are declining(it's like seeing an older family members life deteriorating) and he's losing matches he wouldn't a few years ago.

After the Wimbledon, USO, and now this AO loss, I have to agree.

Pretty sure it was for 10 years. I remember we all discussed it ad nauseum last summer.

Tented, how are things man? Long time...
I just woke up to find out my guy lost. I kinda had the feeling going to bed and I was already at peace with it so it is good. I am good with youngsters winning right now. If Roger lost to say a guy like Berdych, I would be upset. Let's see how far the Greek can take it. He is a good kid.

Hi Murat! I thought Tsitsipas might take a set but I didn’t think he would beat Roger. Then again, I didn’t think Roger would lose to Millman at the USO either. His age is catching up with him quickly, after such an amazing 2017 and the 2018 AO win.

Both night matches I might add. Fed even mentioned it in his presser. How starting at 7 the conditions change as the night goes on. He's noticed that now at his age, the change of conditions at night effects him a good bit.

BUT, thinking back to that USO match. I remember chocking that one up to the insanely hot, sweltering weather. I mean. It was the worst I've ever seen it there. And Fed was DRENCHED. The conditions lost him that match. So. Maybe. If they aren't that bad going forward, he'll be alright and at least make the second week. But, today, Tsitsipas a good bit better than Millman. And taller. Bigger serve. And just one of the best youngsters we've seen show up. So I just don't think this match spells the end for Fed. And I think the USO was more of a one off. Yes. Rafa and Djokovic handled the heat and were still better than their opponents. But again, they aren't 37.
