Fantastic tiebreak from Osaka. By which I mean, it wasn't a bad tiebreak from Kvitova. Osaka didn't give her much of a chance there. Totally on top of her own serve points. Kvitova will just have to chock that set up to being up 40-love on Osaka's serve and failing to convert 3 straight break points.
It's only her third grand slam final and the last one was several years ago, but that's the first set Kvitova has ever lost in a grand slam final.
So far, my biggest fear that Osaka would just be a touch quicker, a touch more confident, a touch more consistent, has been the case. And again. I've been an Osaka fan for a couple years. Just rooting for Kvitova tonight because I guess I feel like, after this match, win or lose, Kvitova will go back to being streaky. Top 10 streaky. But streaky. Osaka is probably going to go on to win slams consistently. Maybe not at the French. Not sure she's there yet on clay. And I have no idea about grass. But she's going to be a threat in NY and here for years to come.
