Okay apparently I have to clarify my earlier post, this is in the present.

Osaka one year ago was ranked 72 in the world,on Saturday she will have the chance to become the No 1 player is she can defeat Kviotva.Osaka's reward is winning back to back slams, becoming the first woman to win two straight singles majors since Serena Williams won RG and Wimbledon in 2015.

Osaka can hit winners from any position on court, wonderful mover and defender.

Watching Kviota in Australia, first in Sydney live, when she she won the title defeating Barty,I noticed a few improvements in her game.Kviota looks really fit, moving to the ball quicker, using her swinging lefty serve to her advantage, her ground shots being more effective.Kviota is not having mid match walk abouts, she was known as Petra3:) Kvitova has not dropped a set all tournament at the AO.Kviotova's match against Barty was super impressive.Kvitova also has the opportunity to be the No 1 player if she wins.

This is the first time both players have met.

Good luck to both players.

Kvitova to win in 3 sets.

Lol I had ‘insufficient privileges’ to post in the general AO women’s thread? What’s going on @britbox @kskate2 ?

Anyways Sammy Stosur wins a slam on home ground, congrats!
The general thread is good for the beginning through R4. After that each match gets it's own thread. Besides, people were posting QF posts in the general thread. I don't have time to decipher through all those posts and move them to the correct thread.

From your reply it looks like you think it has never been done. But, I just checked up on it and found that Venus Williams won 2000 Wimbledon as her first slam and immediately followed it up with a win at USO in 2000.

p.s. I thought people come to discussion board to discuss. :p
This isn't the most recent time it was done. Capriati actually won her maiden slam at AO 2001 then followed it up w/ 3 set win of Kimmie at RG. I remember when she came into Wimby, everyone was talking about the calendar slam and she couldn't handle the pressure. Ended up losing in R4 or QF.

Ok, I understand.

Kvitova in 2 sets. I like Osaka though, but I think Kvitova has this, playing great here and looks fit.

I'll go on a hunch with Osaka in 3. Petra's playing great though, so it won't surprise me if she takes this, even in two. When she's on song, few can match her. Good final two - looking forward to it.

Margaret, I'm not playing your passive-aggressive game. It isn't that serious. He asked a question. I answered it. There was no need for you to respond to me

May be someone should open a doubles thread in both men's forum and women's forum. But, it will have only 0.0001 posts.

So I went ahead and voted for Kvitova in 3. On the one hand, I completely disagree with my choice. Osaka has been great in 3 sets for a while. And she's started well in every match I think. And Kvitova can often start sluggish. And if Osaka wins the first set, she's basically unstoppable. She's won 59 straight. But Kvitova is playing well. Can be unplayable. And her 3 set record last year or maybe two years ago before the injury she was fantastic.

But honestly either lady could win in straights too. So I have no idea. But while I'll be ok with Osaka announcing herself as the woman to beat on tour. I'd love to see Kvitova get title number 3. So that's what I'm hoping for and a three set match would be great.

If Petra starts well I feel overall she has more power than Osaka, though I have been impressed with Osaka and it could go either way.I hope it is a competitive final.I also picked Petra to win in 3 sets.
