Went out to watch the World Cup today, and so missed the match, though, based on a skim over the chat thread, I didn't miss much. Congrats to Novak and his fans. It's been a long time coming to have a big win to celebrate, and I know that has been tough.
I think it's a cause for alcoholic beverages all round. Alcohol to celebrate if you're a Novak fan & alcohol to drown your sorrows if you're not.

can't believe the WC is over ! Next will be Qatar in November/December 2022 !

As to the men's final, you DIDN'T MISS MUCH. Must rate as one of the worst standard men's finals of the championships history.
I saw someone mentioned last year's. Was it worse than that?

We managed that during the World Cup final. :lulz2:

No. Other than the opening two sets. As mention before for the past three years the mens and ladies finals were decided in straight sets which is shame considering Wimbledon is the holy grail.

Lol. It's very nice drinking all that alcohol but not nice nursing hangovers afterwards. The alcoholic beverages I like taste nice too but if I'm not careful I really suffer later.

For another year Wimbledon is over & done.
This year we had sun.
Some people had fun.
Everyone shared the highs & lows.
Today it came to a close.
A lot of results were unexpected but that's how it goes.
We had unexpected winners & unexpected losers too.
Some people were disappointed but there's not much you can do.
Upsets we've had quite a few.
That's it now for this year.
Some fans were so full of good cheer.
Some fans needed to drown their sorrows with plenty of beer.

I hope you all had a good time.
I hope some of you enjoy my rhyme.

Very good , but apart from two anti climatic finals there was few stand-out and epic matches of the championships - all from the men's competition!

Thank you very much. I write my poems spontaneously & although I've wrote a few in blank or free verse I prefer to write in rhyme when I'm in a poetic mood so sometimes if I can't find sentences with line endings that rhyme or words somewhere in those sentences that I can move around to make line endings rhyme without losing the meaning I leave them out even if I really wanted to add them though sometimes I will ponder harder looking for other words that rhyme or other ways of saying what I want where I can move words around.

Worst final since 2010.

Nole needed a pigeon of the 2nd tier to complete this dream run! I just didn't think it would happen; esp. after dropping that match to Cilic at Queens! I figured he was vulnerable; not because he wasn't playing well, but because he had gotten out of his winning mindset when he was making final after final! I couldn't be happier; Nole adding to his total and someone other than Fedal taking one of the gems of the season! "Thx Novak!" :yesyes: :p  :ptennis:

after the two semifinals, you just had the sense that the final would be anti-climatic (third year in row for Wimbledon). No offence to Big Kev but the real final was Djokovic vs Nadal (and that's coming from someone who isn't a fan of either player). In the end a few points separated the two champions.

thanks to Marian for this great come back

What does he have to do with anything except having a girl's first name? Hopefully it wasn't his idea to turn Novak into a pusher. I think we can all say Novak lucked out that Nadal sucked a bit much at key points and then he played a jaded opponent in the final who couldn't serve normally thanks to a dead arm and inability to push up on serve from blisters and weary legs. No offense to Maid Marian...just keeping it real here.

People can't help what their parents called them. Did you know that John Wayne was called Marion by his parents but he had the sense to change his name to go into films? He was born Marion Robert Morrison. I prefer his stage name.

I do think that Marian helped Nole a lot and this come back"ld not have happened without him, Agassi was a poor coach, Marian's much better than him for sure
