He could pass both Federer and Nadal.
Not likely Feds, I think he will sit in between. What an era, hopefully the trio won’t be seen as playing in weak era as they didn’t have enough competition to take away their majors....but you know what some will try cooking that up.

Didn't see it but congrats to Nole and his fans, was definitely surprised it was so easy scorewise but I expected he'd win. He is definitely back, kind of could tell when I saw him a few matches in Cincy that he was getting back to beast mode.

Del Potro actually played well. Novak was simply too good. With the improved serve and that return, he looks almost untouchable.

Beside Novak playing better overall, the slow court did not favor Delpo.

Was definitely hoping DelPo would get his second title. But Djokovic was great. Simply too good. DelPo could not find a way around him. Or through him. Which of course I found incredibly frustrating. But Djokovic is Djokovic and winning and being a wall and beating everyone is what he does. Definitely looks like he's close to his unbeatable self. Though.... if I'm being picky I definitely think the roof helped him. Since Federer's (small) decline and Djokovic's rise, he's easily been the best indoor player in the world. But it didn't help that much. Just too good. Good for him. Honestly, while I just about always root against him, I was an Agassi fan. So I "HATE" Pete Sampras. And I was too young to come to appreciate Sampras like I have with Nadal and Djokovic and Murray. So honestly I'm glad to see Djokovic match, and probably soon pass, Sampras' original record.

Likewise. I hope Nole will invite Sampras to watch him winning his eight Wimbledon in 4 years.

It will be interesting to see where Djoker collects his hardware next year. I am sure AO 2019 will be likely which would make it interesting at the French 2019 if he does grab AO because he could win 4 in a row again.

That is the point. If he can snatch the RG next year, his chances to catch Rafa increases significantly.

It will be interesting to see what comes from Rafa’s knee issue. Where that puts him this year and into next year. I think for Federer if conditions are starting to bother him, then he has very few chances at slams at this point.

Rafa had issues with health at both HC slams: AO and USO this year.
That is something he should think about. Prolonged HC play end up hurting him. At his age perhaps, he should maybe do what Roger does with the clay. Scale down his exposure.

Novak seems to be getting used to the faster courts, finally winning Cinci. I was looking forward to seeing how he did on the normal U.S. Open surface. I was wondering things might have been had they not emptied a sand dune into the paint... Nadal might not have re-injured his knee. Thiem might have won, Fed would have at least beaten Millman, DP would have been way more competitive against Novak. Homogenizing the courts has to stop.

You can't expect a top player to purposely skip 2 HC slams especially when they've won it before. Seeing how competitive Nads is, I don't think I could see him skipping AO or USO in the future. Knowing him, he would probably take 2 months off of the regular tour just to make sure he was ready to perform at those HC slams.

I don’t know if he was proposing him skipping the slams but maybe just losing a regular tournament or two from his schedule on the hard stuff. He is at that age where he qualifies for exemptions no? Maybe instead of IW and Miami just play one and maybe only one warm up before the US Open.

He's already doing that though. Nads only played in Canada and skipped Cinci.
