For a moment it looked like a bagel to Zverev in the third but he's managed to get on the board. But the result will be as predicted in the poll, even surprisingly easier than predicted.
Why is Zverev performing poorly in all majors? Surely, 2 times M1000 champion and established world #3, should have better aspiration at majors than a lonely one sided QF, with a quick exit... Is it lack of mental strength/strategy in best of 5 matches or rather running out of energy in a long tourney?
Eventually, like most others here, I think he has time to develop a GS winning strategy, he's still very young. It'd be sad if he stopped at his current stage.

It's his first QF and lost against Thiem at RG. I think he performed above expectations to be honest.

You think? I'm not really seeing too much evidence of it.

I was an early cheerleader of Sascha and I think he has a big future... but I can't get away from the fact that there are other players that I prefer watching. Frankly, Thiem is nicer on my eye than Sascha. I'm loving this Stefanos Tsitsipas kid. I think he's got a great future.
You're a one handed backhand guy matey. It's no surprise, and frankly I'm with you. Thiem actually reminds me of Guga in a funny way. I'm just hoping he brings out his inner Guga against Rafa.

Definitely! I can't escape it... I could watch Gasquet hit all day and I don't even care for the bloke.

I was actually surprised on a recent thread how many folks here don't care for Sasha. Lots seem to think he's boring. I like him, and Thiem, and I'm also big on the young Greek, as well. But I don't see Sasha's got anything like unified support amongst the Fedal fans.

Actually, "boring" is a good way to describe what I feel about his game, hence my indifference. He's obviously talented, but I don't know, I find his game bland. The lack of touch and relative straight-forwardedness of his game annoys me. It's just all a bit blah.

From the new generation I don’t like any of the prodigies. I like Chung but I know or think he’ll be second tier.

. I think Zverev's results at majors for the rest of the year will continue to be inconsistent, BUT, I think next year is when he should finally make the leap.

I am not a fan of Sasha and one of those who think his game is "boring". But, I do think he will reach QF or better at both Wimbledon and USO this year.

For sure these things are a matter of taste. He's not de facto "boring." Even a poster here thinks Nadal's game is "dull." Anyway, I like his attitude. But, to each her own.

Agreed that this is first and foremost a matter of taste. While I do not think that Zverev is that boring (my mild dislike for him comes from other aspects), you gotta admit that his game is a bit predictable. Actually, to quote Broken:

The lack of touch and relative straight-forwardedness of his game annoys me.

I happily second that statement. Actually this aspect for me shows were his talent shows its limits. Obviously the serve and the backhand are good "talents". Also is his (recently acquired) solidness and resolve. All that makes him a pretty good player, for sure. I just always shiver a bit when I see the world "talent" describing him, as I always understand "talent" mostly as "skillful". He still lacks a few skills for me to be comfortable labeling him as a "talented" player.

We can say alot about Zverev's "predictable" or "boring" game, however if we look at just the numbers: his overall results on the tour, don't we find surprising that he is currently a top player in the race to London?
He's been playing lots of tourneys where he's been doing very good and gathering lots of points. He will likely be surpassed by Nad this week but still being on top of the pack even shortly, in his very young age is an amazing feat. But feels like it does not count if he stays at his current level and does not win a slam. His legacy will be that of a second tier player, like Berdych, Tsonga.
