Djoke vs Monfils match is like a train wreck. Horrible from both players. I would not be surprised if Monfils withdraws. He isn’t fit enough to last four sets.

They're talking about closing the roof on all courts, and holding the ones on the outer ones. It sounds just brutal out there. On court temp must be well over 100.

I don't think they will close it. It's not fair to the other players who played their entire match in the midday heat already.

No, but they're talking about pausing them all. Don't know if that's possible. But you have lights. Do they all have to fall over from heatstroke?

What a horrible match - I couldn't watch. My two takeaways:
1) Monfils is Monfils.
2) Djokovic isn't right. I'm not sure if he can fix it, but this player isn't going to beat Sascha Zverev in the 4R.

Djoker levels it up... Monfils is looking in a bad way. Not sure what temperature has to get to, for them to suspend proceedings.

My whole problem with this is they knew the temps were going to be this way. They could have closed the roof at the start of day and scheduled the outside courts to play at night. It seems unorganized and usually Aus runs a tighter ship.

Plus, realistically, any roof benefits the players on the show courts. If you keep playing in the rain, you get through your matches when others don't. There are plenty of benefits to being higher-ranked.

I am not going to watch the rest of this match. There is only one way this match can end (Novak wins).

However, Novak's serve weakness is now exposed and so I don't think he will win AO this year.

Sure, that's logical, but it's an outdoor tournament. These kinds of calls are more subjective than they seem. But now it just looks cruel.

I noticed his weak serve the other day, but my findings were dismissed by most people here because he beat up on the unreliable Donald. That serve will get eaten alive and Le Monf is more of a pusher than the others.

It has been spoken about, if somewhat delicately. We'll see how he manages it going forward, but it's not looking like a new strength, let's put it that way.

Re: Novak, I think all we know right now is that he isn't coming back like Roger did last year - at full steam. He's a diminished player, perhaps even more so than he was early last year. But what we don't know is if this is mostly rust and jitters. He can, in theory, play his way out of this - and his new serve can improve.

But if he stays like this, I agree: no way he beats Rafa or Roger, not to mention half a dozen others.

Ha! Monfils isn't done yet. Some point!
