they're focused on selling papers mate. Falls from grace are better copy. They'll build a player up, and are perfectly happy with an unfortunate outcome sadly

That may be true, but why does it happen in the UK and not in other countries? Press in lots of countries are much more friendly to their athlethes, focussing on nice personal stories instead of going overboard with expectations etc.

I'm gutted but he did well & has shown potential. This isn't the end for him altogether. There are other tournaments. I think I'll go do something fitting for today & read my book of Burns poems & songs. It would have been his Birthday today after all.

Cilic is scary when he is on. If Fed meets him in the final (which I fully expect), it won’t be easy. Cilic probably has muscular strain of his thigh muscle. He has enough time to recuperate before the final.
